Sad..Lonely..Confused

Well, the operation is over Ive got home....and i feel like everyone around me just expects me to get on with it...so to speak...

Should i just feel 100% now, should i just be getting on with it?  Im sad, feel like i have no-one to relate to, feel like my husband doesnt even understand....maybe he isnt supposed to.

Bing in the country i feel like im all alone and no-one can relate to how im feeling right now.  Most days Im sore, in pain, hate my hair, hate my skin...Feel like im just sitting around putting on weight.....

I was so active before i was diagnosed, i used to run everyday and now i feel like i cant do anything.

Can someone help me?  I feel sad, lonely, depressed perhaps a little....Is this normal or am i strange?

  • Hi,

It has been 1 week since my Operation and find out my pathology results tomorrow.

I really recommend you get My Journey Journal, I got mine before i had my op and it is soooooooooooo full of really good anf helpfull info. It also has special pamphlets for very close friends , family or spouses to read - (i gave one to my sister as she took my Cancer worse than I did) and there is a CD for your husband to watch and listen too.

I listen to it and found it might help in your situation.

It only took about 4 days to be delivered and i ordered it on this site.

Honey please keep your chin up read alot of info and doooooooooo go for little wlks.

  • Everything you are feeling is quite normal and understandable. Breast cancer is such a huge shock to your system both physically and emotionally. Be very kind to yourself at this time and don't expect too much. I know it can be frustrating when you're used to being very active but think of it as a much needed rest time. As Trina said, try a gentle walk in the sunshine, share how you are feeling with those closest to you, and use this site to connect. (I found it very helpful in my darkest days.) Also, don't knock back any help that is offered. I found it hard to accept people's offers as I was used to being so independent. I think that was a mistake.

As for your husband, no he probably doesn't fully understand what you're going through. I don't think all men do. Perhaps try being a little more frank with him. Let him know that you are in pain and it isn't possible for you to do everything you did before. Ask him to help out a bit more with the kids. Chances are he will be more than happy to do what he can. He probably just doesn't realise exactly how bad you are feeling both physically and emotionally.

And perhaps you could ask your nurse or doctor about the Look Good Feel Good program. I think it is done in country areasas well as the city. It's sort of a make-up class for women with breast cancer. You learn how to deal with issues associated with cancer treatment plus I understand they give out a lot of free, high quality cosmetics. That's another thing I regret saying no to, actually.

Anyway, you take it easy on yourself. This is a tough time, no doubt about it. I will be thinking of you and hoping you feel a little better soon. Janet :)

  • Hi sorry you have to go through this journey. Having had my surgery nearly twelve months ago still quite vivid in my memory. Try to just take time for you and rest as your body will need rest to heal. Wishing you all the best with whatever lies ahead for you . Reach out for help when you need it. This site invaluable . Take care Deb
  • Hi... it's a horrible place to be... no you have just had surgery so you shouldn't be feeling 100%, that's not realistic... you have gone through a huge life changing experience which will take a while to digest. You don't need permission to cry .. and yes, you are absolutely normal.

Can I suggest a couple of things... ring a friend/close family member for a chat, tell them how you feel (trust me, sharing really helps), and when it's daylight... go for a little walk. You will be amazed at how a little exercise helps.

Check out this web site... read other peoples blogs and connect with people who have been there.. done that. You will get through it, it just takes time. If you haven't already done so yet - order the My Journey Kit from this site and if you are still feeling down ring the doctor...GP, Surgeon...

I'm not sure where you are at, at the moment... I'm assuming you have just had surgery and are maybe waiting for your pathology results... and I cannot offer any medical advice... what I can tell you is that whatever is ahead is 'doable'... and you'll get through it... you will even function and be able to look after and play with your children. Chemo is difficult but looking back (I finished in September last year) not too bad, and Radiation was a walk in the park...

take care and know that there is someone in 'cyber space' sending you a big hug, thinking of you and wishing you the best.

    Trina
