Round 4 - done - easy peasy
Day 1 - After round four
Well after a pretty restless night, the time came around quickly for my 4th round of chemo. This was the first dose of the second drug in my prescribed cocktail.
Arrived 15 minutes early as instructed, and my butt had barely touched the seat and I was called in. Looks they were more keen to get this done than me!
The clinic was pretty busy this morning, so I didn't get to sit at the usual end...but that's OK, got to talk to some different people this time round....It's always interesting to hear other peoples stories, makes you realise that this disease wears many masks, tries to break so many, but through it all we all remain defiant....the strength of human will is a mighty force to be reckoned with....and as I sit, I look around me and feel despair, but that soon turns to admiration and an unspoken comradeship because we are all there for the same reason, the same fight and we all have the same will...
The nurse put a nice warm towel over my arm, that's to help your veins make a guest appearance, and after a while declared he found one to access....by this time of course my hands were dripping with sweat as usual...He got it first go! Phew!
He presented me with some blue mittens on a tray. Ice gloves.I have to wear them this time round. This drug is known for destroying your nails...they can turn black, get very brittle and even fall off! The ice gloves help to freeze the cells and protect them from the effects of the chemo. Yes they were really cold and my hands went tingly, but it was bearable.
He then set up the flush and then the drug and watched me very closely. He asked me was I stressed, Yes I said since last night...my face was flushed, my shoulders were tensed and my breathing was shallow, the poor man thought I was having a reaction to the new drug! He assured me that I was doing fine and started cracking jokes....
He was right, I did do fine! No reaction, no burning....2 hours later I was on my way home!
I was tired after treatment, as I always am, but ate some lunch and then had a nice long nap. I woke with a mild headache and that heavy all over feeling. Not too bad though considering.
I did wake through the night with that Hell Fire in my belly again! I was going to get up and take some meds, but sleep took over again.
I have that heavy, just had an anesthetic kind of haze this morning...but no shuffle, no nausea, no headache. See how the day goes along....and hope that's all I have to deal with side effect wise.
Have a great day!
*excuse the look on my face in this pic....talking while getting a photo taken always turns out awkward looking! LOL!
