Reconstruction, prosthesis or au natural

My thoughts should I want a breast reconstruction or a prosthetic breast?

There is just no way in hell they are getting me any where near surgery again unless its lifesaving surgery. There will be no thoughts for me of reconstruction. It is gone and good riddance.

Should I try to hide the fact I only have one chest headlight now and wear a bra with a prosthesis pad in the missing side? Well it might make my clothes sit a bit more nicely across my chest but no, there will be no fake bump going in. Will I even wear a bra to support the other one? I am not a large endowed woman so I don’t really see the need for it.

I will display myself au natural for anyone to notice I have only one bump instead of two. If I notice anyone looking down that way with curiousness on their face I will warn them, one in eight women in Australia get breast cancer but the five year survival rates are 89%.

Get those breast scans done ladies, your life could depend on it. Don’t put it off. Guys too get breast cancer although in a vastly lower percentage, it is still possible. Be vigilant everyone.

  • It was a small 2.5cm tumour and they thought no node involvement at the time and the other breast showed all clear. It ended up having a sentinel node positive and I had to have a full axillary clearance a few weeks later. The doctor saw no reason for a double mastectomy and kind of thought a single mastectomy was over kill but my boobs are small and getting a good clearance on the tumour would have put it dangerously close to my nipple and there was a fatty tissue on the other side of the breast to worry about down the track so I thought stuff it, take the whole thing off.

  • Brenda can I ask why you only did 1??? I have decided to do a double whammy and I'm hoping they will reconstruct with my own body fat as I don't want those silicone thingys.
