It was a small 2.5cm tumour and they thought no node involvement at the time and the other breast showed all clear. It ended up having a sentinel node positive and I had to have a full axillary clearance a few weeks later. The doctor saw no reason for a double mastectomy and kind of thought a single mastectomy was over kill but my boobs are small and getting a good clearance on the tumour would have put it dangerously close to my nipple and there was a fatty tissue on the other side of the breast to worry about down the track so I thought stuff it, take the whole thing off.
