Radiotherapy twice in the same place?

Hmmm, that is a weird one @StarGirl  - I thought you could only have it once, too ..... was this the same Onc as the previous one?  Is this Onc a Rad Onc as well?  Maybe put the question to your Rad Onc?

Hi @StarGirl, depends on dose and exact location. Increasing dose by doing radiation in the exact location increases risk of pathological fracture. I have had stereotactic radiation (high dose and high focus) of mets in my pelvis a couple of times - not exact location but adjacent location and only two zaps per location. But they are now reluctant to do more radiation in my pelvis for fracture risk. So this time I had normal radiation a couple of mets in my pelvis, which was lower dose spread over more visits. So it is a possibility. Hope this makes sense.

Thank you @arpie, it was a medical oncologist and not the same one as I was seeing when I previously had radiotherapy. I haven’t seen a radiation oncologist since then so that’s probably a really good idea. I’ve had surgery already to remove the new (and, as far as I know, localised) tumour, so I’m not too worried about just leaving well enough alone. Xx

Thanks @Lisa1407 I feel a bit stupid admitting I have no idea what type of radiation I had, but based on what you’ve said,  as mine was spread over 25 sessions across 5 weeks, I am assuming it was low dose? It was breast/ribs/left axilla so I had to do the breath hold but that’s all I remember. Other than feeling really tired and quite nauseated during and for some weeks after. I would be very happy not to do that again! Xx

Hi @StarGirl, Your radiation was the regular radiation and not the high dose, focussed radiation. The good thing about the high dose radiation is that you only have 2 to 4 sessions over consecutive days. You still get tired but are less likely to get side effects like nausea and diarrhoea as the radiation is focussed on the cancer tissue and mostly avoids the good tissue. But I am not sure if you would be eligible for this. May be worth having a chat with a radiation oncologist to see what they can do for you. You do not have to proceed with what they recommend if you don't want to. Good luck and let us know how you go.
