Radiotherapy and Lymphodema Sleeve

Hi everyone. I'm just after some advice. I'm starting Radiotherapy in 2 weeks and was advised to wear my Lymphodema sleeve during treatment to help reduce the risk of lymphodema as I've had an axillary clearance and am having Chest wall, collarbone and axillary radiated. How long have others going through or gone through this treatment left it on each day after? Thanks Mel

  • Thank you to everyone  for sharing thevinformation above. This is very helpfull information  for me/us who is yet to have radiation.

  • Thanks @Glemmis and @Jane221. I'll keep it on as much as I can.
  • I wish I'd been advised to wear one back in 2012 when I had my radiation treatment as that was the start of my arm being affected by lymphodema, so I think if it's advised it would be a great idea to wear it as much as possible throughout each day of treatment. Doing self-massages each day also helps - if you're not sure how to do that then see a lymphodema therapist / physio or check out some of the videos on YouTube. Best wishes for your radiation treatment and remember to keep the moisturiser up on the areas affected as well as on your arm xx
  • Hi @Melsie97, I was told to wear mine for 8 hours a day by my lymphodema therapist. I started radiotherapy last week & forgot to wear it today but put it on after. I am not having axilla radiated but therapist said I was still at risk of radiation making it worse. Mine is mild & at last visit had reduced from 22% to 16%.
