On to the next step

Needing a little vent. One week post surgery today. Recovery has been a bit up and down. The first few days were great, but I've developed a bit of swelling and pain the last two days, which I didn't expect, so feeling a bit sorry for myself. The chest/mastectomy part is good but my armpit is sore from the axillary clearance. Keeping up the exercises and hoping for better days sooner than later. Tomorrow's the big day for staging and traetment decisions. Feeling sick with anxiety again but wanting it over with at the same time.

  • Hey Molly, Sounds as though it was caught at a very very good time!! That is sensational. One of the ladies here described the pain associated with the node removal as feeling like someone had attacker her with a grater!! Perfect description I reckon. It does pass but if you need something to help ease the pain I'd go for the lyrics like Kath suggested. Rest, relax and recuperate for the moment and heal gently. Xx Cath
  • Good news is good news and we all love to hear it. Glad you are traveling OK.
  • Hi Molly - getting the pathology results helps to put things into perspective.  Yay!
    Take care xx
  • Yay, no cancer found in the lymph nodes they removed. Cancer is grade 2 oestrogen and progesterone positive. Several tumors were detected in the breast tissue and beginning to invade blood vessels, the largest being 9mm. Breast specialist is recommending chemo, radiation and hormone therapies as a precaution. Couldn't be happier about my pathology results. 12 nodes removed, mastectomy wound is healing well, stitches out next week.
  • You'll be better after the appointment. Yes the suxilla gets quite sore as nerves start regenerating. Gentle stroking can help if you can toletate it. I needed lyrica to settle the nerve pain down for a few weeks but it settled quickly on that. Normal to feel a bit flat at this point after surgery. Fingers crossed for your appointment. Take care.
