OMG

Why me? It's not in my family history, yet I've been told the pain under my arm is breast cancer stage 3 with triple negative hormones. Went quickly from being told to surgery a week later now in limbo waiting for chemo to start next week. Happy that tumour has been removed with clear margins and node is negative for cancer, but nervous for treatments to come! Should I have port or picc put in? I've heard veins can go into hiding...I don't place them...!! Also..hate needles! Just moved to Gympie area..anyone know a good GP?

Sleep doesn't exist with the help of a tablet...brain won't turn off...any advise before I get poisoned?!

  • Hi Omg ??

I live in Noosa, have a fantastic gp & breastcare nurses at Nambour hospital.

Also the support & services at Bloomhill, Budrim are amazing.

Let me know if you would like details but maybe abit far for you.

    Good luck with everything.

The care, skill & support we all get makes it all very manageable.

  • Hi OMG,

I don't have anything that I can add to the advice you have already been given by these wonderful ladies. Just thought that I would say welcome, sending you warmest wishes and all the best for the next phase of your treatment. Take Care Xx Cath

  • Hi hun,

So sorry you had to join our 'club'. If you have not been put in contact with your local breast care nurse make sure you do as they are invaluable in this whole messy process.

Yes, veins go into hiding and you are best off to avoid canulas if you are needle shy. I am.allergic to everytjong so could not have the line and it has been a nightmare. Average of 3 attempts by their best nurse each time I go for Chemo and every time because veins are shrinking and getting brittle they start the Chemo then have to stop and hunt a new vein... You will also be having regular blood tests throughout so it if you have a line makes it easier for them to draw blood - no need to sting you...

I am bery happy fornyou that marhins are clear and it is just the therapies you need to worry about andnno further surgeries and know while Chemo is at times frustrating due to sideeffects it can be managed. There are bad times and good times but in all you get throught it and you will be OK. The main thing is they get any remaining cells and then you get your life back.

This forum is great as everyone here has either been through it or if going through it. I am 3/4s through my Chemo and believe me when I say these ladies have kept me sane and the advice I received here has helped me deal with any anxiety about the treatment and also helped me deal with the sideffects.

Do you know what Chemo regime you are having? If you do, you can also dlsearch the site for posts on that Chemo as all of us have been sharing our experiences so it will help you gauge what you can expect. Having say that, we are all different and have different reaction to Chemo so some of us having particulat sideffects need not mean you too will have them. Some ladies are lucky to have minimal side-effects and may be one of them.

Either way, remember that we are here and regardless of how you may feel or what you may be goong through we will understand. We have all been there and get it - be it a case of sooking, absolute meltdowns, anxiety, 101 questions or outright anger and rage... We do get it and through this whole mess I hope you remember this is one safe place and we are there.

    Hugs

    Jel.

  • Welcome OMG,

My veins dissappeared so I got a picc line much easier than them trying to find a vein each time.. be guided by your medical team....

I was diagnosed 2012 aged 52 with no family history of bc  with triple negative stage 3 with lymph involvment..... I decided on double mastectomy, then chemo then radiation... now nearly 4 years later I am cancer free....

It's not something any of us chose to have.....

Try an app for your phone/ipad/tablet called "white noise" try the sounds until you find one that helps you still your mind... I use this now to help me settle into sleep each night now with no meds....

Do you have a breast care nurse? Ask her about local support groups..

There is light at the end of the tunnel...

Breathe, and take it one step at a time....
