Oh dear

Last Monday I went in for my regular treatment and seven days later have finally got home. I have had a fever and racing heart combined with runaway pain in my new spots in my thoracic spine. I was aware I wasn't feeling too good but that was a shock. So now off for some radiation and more medications. Honestly, it's a massive roller coaster  ride. One day/week/months I'm fine and then bang it all starts up again. GRRRR so frustrating! It's creating all sorts of problems with my job as well as leaving colleagues in the lurch so feel bad about that. It's a whole other issue really.

  • Oh dear, indeed, Josie!  I'm not surprised that was all a bit of a shock. Hope the new medication's working out -- take it easy, and as Leonie says, take as much time out for yourself as you can. :)

  • Thanks for your advice on this one. It's really hard to know what to do as it's hard to find someone to do my job once the semester starts. Being reliable is a very important trait at work and it's hard when life is so unpredicatable. My colleagues have been lovely but I still feel bad! Im also over 55 so maybe time to think about super as well. I'm sure many others are in our situation.

  • Hi Josie, You shouldn't feel bad letting others down especially work colleagues.  They should be the ones feeling bad imposing those thoughts on you whilst you are ill.  Are you able to take some time off?  Here I am preaching and I didn't go back to work because I didn't want to let anyone down!!!  I knew my health was too unpredictable to return to work.  I'm just over 55 though and was lucky enough to be able to access my super.  At the end of the day you really have to think about what's best for you.  Hope it all works out for you.
