Not feeling so good

Hi ladies, I had my first round of chemo on Tuesday, I can't commend the nursing staff enough on how welcoming and caring they have been. I have been doing it tough the last couple of days....really nauseated and completely washed out. Any tips? Thankyou

  • Definitely call them! They will tell you what to do. There are other anti-nausea meds you can try too. I'm feeling for you. Relentless nausea is the worst. All else fails, It should start to ease within the week. Try your best to get those 8 glasses of fluids down. I struggled with fluids, but dehydration will make nausea worse. I couldn't stand water, cordials were best for me. Take care xxx
  • Oh yes thankyou I have that. Have to take days 2 and 3 in the morning then maxalon 3 times a day if required. I have definitely required it. Think I may need to make a phone call tomorrow to get something else. Thanks so much for your advice. Life changing shittiness xx
  • AliMarie, for my first cycle my oncologist gave me some extra dexamethesone labelled 'rescue pack' to take only if needed and only after calling to get the go ahead. I tried maxalon and ondansatron for nausea, which didn't help. As I couldn't eat or drink for the nausea, I needed the extra dex to get through. My oncologist then gave me extra for every cycle for days 3-7. It was a real lifesaver. Also, my gp was great about ensuring I had scripts for anti-nausea meds & pain relief. Hope you're feeling better soon xxxx
  • @AliMarie, dex is dexamethasone the steroid , usually given in drip with chemo and tablets to take home. Were you given anti nausea meds to go home with.
  • Thankyou Molly001.... I'm sorry for my ignorance but what is a 'rescue pack' of Dex?
  • Hang in there AliMarie. I found my first cycle by far the worst. Tell your oncologist next visit and they will make every effort to tweak your meds and make you more comfortable next time. If you're really struggling call them and they'll help you. Did you get a 'rescue pack' of dex? I needed mine and had dex for longer for the rest of chemo. Really did the trick. I coped much better.
  • Hi @AliMarie, sorry you are feeling so Crap. Is it ac chemo?. I didn't have nausea on it but the fatique really hit me. Have you got extra nausea meds?. I had my last  chemo Tuesday also and am laid up in bed  with such fatigue like being run over. Try keep fluids up if able to keep down. Hopefully some other ladies have better tips. I hoped you feel better soon. It sucks all of it.
