Metastatic BC

Hi,

My name is Anurag and my Mother has a metastatic breast cancer stage 4.

She had breast cancer about 10 yrs ago and now in May 2012 a big node was found in her lungs which also spread to her bones in a low scale. She was given chemo (PacliTaxol) which did not worh and then tablets which eventually was suiting her reducing the size of the lung node, but last month traces of cancer was found in her liver by which the doctors started giving her Faslodex (every 3 weeks) and Arimedex along with Zometa. She also has a drain attached to her abdomel region for the liquid to be out from her body. Initially the solor of the liquid was red + yellow. Later the color was only yellow.

She got her second shot of Faslodex 2 days ago and now the color of the drain is more reddish than before. She is experincing some pain around the area where th drain is inserted.

I want to know if anyone has similar experince or knows anyone with similar experince. Want to know if there's more that can be done. She is very weak now but is fighting each day. What food can be given to her?

Please if there is someone who has been through this then would really appreciate if you can share your story.

    I am sorry to hear about your mum. I have lung mets but not in the liver. I would seek medical advice for your questions. Perhaps you can search for a group for advanced BC in your area too. I too eat loads of fruit and vegetables and juices to help keep me vital and my energy good. Light exercise like a walk around the block or even just to the mailbox might help too. I wish your mum well. Amanda x

    Hi Anurag,

    Sorry to hear about your mum, it is a hard place to be in.

    I have liver mets but no experience personally in what you describe.

    It sounds like Ascites (abdominal drain) in which there shouldnt be restrictions on diet but check with oncologist. Breast care nurse should be able to assist.

    I personally have lots of veggie juices and simple fresh foods which give me alot of energy, but it is best to get advice from a trained professional on this type of advice.
