Mastectomy operation completed

Hi everyone,  well I've had my 2nd operation for mastectomy this time on 14/6 as the removal of lymp  nodes and the lumpectomy done on 31/5  was not a success.
I got out of hospital  over the weekend,  feeling ok with some pain under the arm and chest. Sleeping is not too bad as i still cant sleep on my side.
I am not thinking of reconstruction  at this point  as the body has been through too much for now.
I must say the removal of the last drain was soooooo painful that i needed a painkiller  afterwards.  Worst  than any other pain thru the surgery. The nurses were so great i cant thank them enough.
I'm trying to do my arm exercises but not so successful because  of the pain, doing a little each  day.
Did anyone else have the same issue..it is my left arm

  • Hi Hulos, glad you are now home with the ordeal of surgery behind you. There is no place like home for your healing physically and emotionally. I had physio after my lumpectomy in 2015, expect to have more when I have double mastectomy soon. If you can shower, it's a good time to do your exercises under the nice warm water. Also a good time when the pain meds kick in. Hope your recovery goes well, all the best, Tracey xx
  • The exercises are hard...but keep persisting at it. Scar tissue forms when healing so if we don't stretch...well it forms in the arm down position and teally restricts movement . Once scars healed up and given okay I found the hydro pool fantastic  to do my stretches in and regained strength really quickly.
  • Hulos, congratulations your surgery is over. It must be a relief. I will be having a mastectomy in July sometime and I'm so scared. Out bodies have been through so much. I won't be contemplating reconstruction either anytime soon. Best of luck Hulos.
