Lump gone

I am now back home after the mapping yesterday morning and surgery in the afternoon. There is not much pain but just need to take it easy. So glad the lump is gone and hopefully the test results will be fine when I see the specialist. Then I will be on to the therapy they prescribe me. I know I will still have ups and downs - but feeling good today! Will need a nanny nap this arvo - not much sleep on the ward but looked after wonderfully by all.

  • My employer is really understanding (I work in the hospital system) and they have been great so far, and will be very understanding if I have to go through chemo. I am thinking that maybe I need to take one week off then 2 weeks on if I can. I need to wait and see if I need chemo first, then how I respond to the cocktail of drugs. thanks for your words - need to hear things so I can try and prepare.

  • Hi, I hope that if you do have to have Chemo  it is a walkover for you, as I gather it is for quite a few lucky people. There is no reason why it shouldn't be, but do be aware that fatigue and other symptoms that might be a problem for a part or all of each cycle can make it hard to concentrate, and leave you very emotionally vulnerable and utterly lacking in energy. On the other hand it can be very satisfying to keep as much normal structure in your life as possible. But when you are having treatment for cancer and recovering from your treatment is also your time to really look after yourself, when you need to say not just "Can I survive doing it this way? but "Is this the best thing for me and my health?" So you may find it worthwhile letting your employer or clients know that you might need to play it by ear and take time off with little or no warning at times, and to make sure you do this without guilt if and when you need to. I hope your employer/clients are working with you in an understanding and helpful way through this difficult time

  • Hi

my oncologist still has to speak to me - should be this week - as even though those results are great in the pathology there is something called a key 67 which had a very high reading. the pathologist had made my cancer a grade 2 - the oncologist has said that with this high reading it indicates to her that it was multiplying faster and behaving more like a grade 3 and she wanted more information from the pathologist. This is what is the difference between chemo and no chemo. If chemo is needed(should find out this week) then I will have 3 - 4 doses of docetaxel and cyclophophamide every 3 weeks. I feel she is going to say she recommends chemo so I am trying to find out as much as I can so I can try and be prepared for it.

I will be going to the cancer care centre in gosford hospital.

I am hoping to work through my chemo but guess that depends what happens. so I will have to also need to find time to excercise at the gym as it will be dark soon when I get home from work.

    take care Jessica

  • Hi Margiemoo, hope you are doing well.Where are you having your treatment?  I saw that you are going to start Chemo before long, after first getting the news you are ERpositive and PR postitive (and node negative which is wonderful). Then you said you are HER2 negative. So which Chemo are they putting you on?

best wishes anyway, a lot of it is just discovering your own path but as Robyn said, walking every day can make all the difference to fatigue levels with Chemo.

  • and have now heard back that I am HER2 negative!! got the trifecta. am feeling pretty lucky at the moment (not lucky getting breast cancer but there has been some good news this last week!)

  • That is great news that you are home.Just take it easy, cause the anaesthetic makes you tired, and as you said, not much sleep in a hospital:( Fingers crossed your test results will be good, but whatever they are,you will be fine!! Take care and stay in touch.xoxRobyn
