Leslie Jane

Hi,

I am 4 days post my first FEC. I finshed chemo about 1pm and it started to hit me about 4pm by 6pm I was feeling pretty bad.

Even though I had lots of medication for vomiting I still felt nauseated. I had a really bad headache and I ached all over like I had a really bad flu. I couldn't lie flat and couldn't really stay still because of the nausea.

I finally fell asleep sitting up on the couch about 12mn and my husband put me to bed at 2 am.

The next day I still had a headache and felt some nausea but the body aches had decreased and by the end of the second day I felt a beit better and have been improving each day.

I guess my question is what can I do to try and make it better? Should I try and take panadol every 4 hours, get a really strong sleeping pill and try and slept through it?

What did others do.

Any advise would be helpful. Not looking forward to the second one!!!

Leslie

    Hi Leslie,

As Tonya mentioned, you will find what works best for you.  The advice I was given, which I believe is really important, is to drink lots of water the day before chemo - and after it as well.

    Hopefully this helps.

  • Hi Leslie, I didn't have FEC, but had TC instead. The take home advice I received from my oncologist was, to take all the medications prescribed, even if I didn't think I needed them. He said it is easier to prevent the nausea, than to cure it. I also experienced the aches and pains on days 4-6. The oncologist said to start taking panadol at the first sign of a twinge and keep taking it 4 hourly till the aches went away. It worked well for me, and my side effects were not too bad. I found a combination of things that worked, and used this regime each time. I also wrote down what tablets I took, the time and the symptom, and how it worked. It will give you an idea for your next cycle of what to do before synptoms get too bad. Good luck. Love Chris xx
  • No getting around it really. You feel like roadkill from a mack truck.I took panadiene only after getting advice from my oncologist and that helped mildly. You shouldn't have to suffer so much so ask your doctor for something. On those really bad few days I just pulled the doona over my head and stayed in bed.Do whatever works for you.
