Late diagnose

Hi all,

Not sure what to write here, as i noticed i would be the most senior for this shocking iBC,i am 83 and it was a late age diagnose,despite my age i have had all chemo,surgery, herceptin and now radiation at cabrini i am stage 3b with MO.

    As I understand it, it is not an issue of clear margins with lymph nodes. It is the number of nodes that were found to contain cancer even though they have been removed. Any more than 1 and radiotherapy gives a better chance of the cancer not returning. Did you have cancer in more than 1 lymph node? Deanne

    I cant understand why i need radiotherapy if i had clear margins!  has anyone had similar story to mine?  i was originaly diagnosed with 3B IBC with no spread..

    My surgeon gave me all clear margins even in nodes, why do i need radiotherapy,,,    he said come back in a year for scan

    Even with clear margins, radiotherapy is still given in some cases after mastectomy. If the cancer was found in more than one lymph node then radiotherapy is recommended. I had radiation to my colarbone area (lymph node in this area) under my arm ( lymph node area) as well as to the chest wall (my tumor was very close to chest wall and margins were small). I had a mastectomy but the cancer had spread to 5 lymph nodes under my arm. Hope this is helpful information. Deanne x

    Has anybody had clear margins after mastectomy for IBC..If not, did you go on radiotherapy..

    I only had nausea with chemo a bit,but the medication they gave me was Pramin.It works well.Robyn
