Ideas on sleep

The things you don't know and they don't tell you. I wish there was some way to really deal with the lack of sleep. Getting to sleep and staying asleep now seem to be my greatest challenge in life. I never thought I would or could function on 4 hours a night. I'd actually be happy if I ever got 4 hours straight, but instead it's broken up with hot flushes, frustration that I was only just asleep for 30 mins and not the hours I hope for and trips to the loo. I'm sure I'm not the only one and wondered what others had done to overcome the lack of sleep. Stephanie

  • I am having so much trouble getting to sleep, when I do eventually drift off, I manage about 4 hours then I'm awake again. My oncologist prescribed a heavy duty sleeping tablet which did not suit me because I was pretty vague throughout the following day. My GP has prescribed a lighter one and I've improved a little. I didn't realise this was common after treatment, I am on Arimidex which causes sleeplessness. Between a rock and a hard place really:( I have recently returned to work, so I can see this becoming a bigger problem.  Sorry I haven't been of any help, just thought I'd write and empathise with you, take care,

  • I have always had poor sleep but when I started my chemo it was shot to pieces. I was given something else than the steroid tablets and GP put me on Endep and I have never slept so well. Good Luck

  • I am exactly the same as you! I have given up on ways to sleep better.I probably wake up 1 to 2 hourly, through the night, and I am just used to it now.Things that seem to help a bit are...I sleep with a pedestal fan next to the bed, that rotates all night.Even through winter I had it on.( my poor husband ! ) just last week we bought a number 1 rating pure cotton quilt, and packed away our feather and down quilt.Already I believe that this has helped noticeably.I have read that some people with hot flushes all night use a chillow pillow, but I haven't looked into that yet.I think it might be good, because I am constantly turning my pillow to the cold side! Let's hope that some other ladies have other ideas.Cheers Robyn xox
