Howdy

Hi All, My name is Hanna, I have recently been diagnosed two weeks before my 28th birthday. Diagnosed 29th Jan 2013, still in a bit of shock. Mostly continuing life as though I just had a bad dream and the cancer isn't real. I have two appointments tomorrow one with the fertility specialist then onto the oncologist for my treatment schedule. I am too emotionally numb at the moment, my head is being filled with so much information and decisions I never though I would have to think about. Sorry I don't know what to write I still don't really know what I'm thinking or how I feel.

  • Hi Hanna,

I too was diagnosed when I was 28. I still remember the day I was told I had breast cancer, it was like my whole world came crashing down. I had just recently been married, we were trying to have a family and I remember thinking this isn't in my plan. I had my life all maped out and this sure wasn't included in it! But I think you just deal with it in the best possible way. I often have comments from people saying you are coping so well with it but realistically you have no choice! I've been dealt with this and now I just want to get better and get back to being normal once again. I try to find all the positives in life and look to the future. I have just finished my chemo and now just have 9 months of herceptin treatment to go. I wish you all the very best with your journey. I'm always here if you need a chat x

  • Dearest Hanna, Oh! How you wish the doctor said 'it's all a mistake'? I felt like that 3 weeks ago (it's funny - the day on my 35th birthday)! I know exactly how you feel and it's scary! All I can say is do all you can to BEAT cancer and never give up! All you can focus on now is on yourself! Remember, there is hope! Good luck with your journey and please stay in touch! • Hi Hanna,I have just been diagnosed on the 21st Feb and was told I had DCIS and was told i'd be haveing a lumpectomy. Then the next day had to go back to the doc only to be told I now don't have a choice have to have a mastectomy in right breast. Next thing I was given all different options like mastectomy no reconstruction, mastectomy and reconstructrion, or to have a bi lateral mastectomy and reconstruction all I did was ask if I could go home and think over weekend. I went back monday 25th and said I'll have bi lateral mastectomy and reconstruction,This will be happening on the 27th march and will be a 12 hr operation so at the moment I'm in shock, scared, and want someone to wake me out of this dream. I'm 36 years old and have a 3 and 8 year old as well

  • My dear Hannah, it is such a spin you first go into when diagnosed and it takes so long for the dust to even start settling. Just make sure you take the time you need to take in all the doctors advice and don't be rushed into anything, especially where your fertility options are concerned.

Looking back I just feel I was pushed for things to happen so fast and now I am left with no very few, if any, options. A few days/weeks is not going to be detrimental but living with your decisions can be heartbreaking.

let us know how things go

  • Bad dream??? Bloody nightmare hey?. Sorry you have been diagnosed, hope you find some support here and share your journey with other young ones. Take care Tanya xx
  • i know how you feel i was also diagnosed at 27. the first few weeks you will feel like its all a dream but over time it does get better. when you have a treatment plan things should start to calm down. chin up!
