Hospital stay

They've been so good to me. They're letting me stay here til the drains are removed, so at least I can reach for things and dress myself when I go home. It's just the drains keep draining! It's coming up to six days. I'm getting phantom pains in breasts that aren't there. I've started Lyrica for that but it hasn't taken effect yet.

I'm absolutely miserable one minute, joking and resilient the next. Of course!

  • Its incredible how weak you feel but in the next week or so quite a bit of strength should return. I still struggle with opening jars...so maybe a device for that would help. Start doing those exercises as recommended and you will improve rapidly. Regaular pain relief really helped to...I used panadol osteo x 3 times daily and found it really helpful. I needed tramadol too for a few weeks (couldn't  have endone) the weird nipple sensation does seem to settle down....it's  worse when cold. I had reconstruction also so I know my pain was a little worse than the normal but by week 5 it was good. I felt pushed to go at day 4 so pleased there was no pressure for you to go. They wanted me out in 48 hours, lol.

  • Thanks Kath, I'm not the only one then. I needed to hear that Lyrica takes a little while to work...I'm still getting those phantom sensations and it does my head in.

Otherwise my seams are looking nice and pink and not upset at all.

My well-meaning mum went shopping for me last night after she brought me home, and bought me a 3 litre-milk which triggered an emotional tirade from me. Nothing that can't be fixed of course, I just REALLY need to feel like I can do some simple things for myself while I'm home alone during the day.

I wish I wasn't so sensitive about this, but I am. This morning I'm going to take her around the whole house and move everything I need to where I can reach it, and replace any of this that is too heavy for me to lift.

  • My drains were in for 7 also. The lyrica takes a little while to work but is fabulous and I only needed for a few weeks whilst the over sensitive areas settled. Kath

  • Try and keep the arm exercises up. Best wishes on speedy recovery.
