Hospital Notes
These are the notes that I wrote whilst in hospital.
Thursday 3rd April 2014.
Admitted to Peninsula Private (PPH) to have my breast op tomorrow. Today I had the radiologist to have the dye put through to find my closest lymph node. No sign of the BCN.
Friday 4th April 2014.
Got wheeled into have what was suppose to be a relevantly simple procedure of removal of the tumor and the necessary lymph nodes.
I wake up in recovery to be informed that I have had an allergic reaction to something and will be heading to ICU instead of the ward. I was in and out of consciousness all day. Mum and Graeme brought the kids into see me, fortunately I was off oxygen at this stage. Oxygen overnight but still no sign of the BCN.
Saturday 5th April 2014.
Off oxygen and the chest monitors. I was able to get up and have a shower. Still have finger monitor on for most of the day.
Just been informed that BCN doesn't work weekends. So I'm starting to get worried that she doesn't know about me. Surely I should have seen her by now. I know I'm very young to be going through all of this but still shouldn't I have just as much access to the BCN as any other patient.
I need support but I feel as thought because of my age and what has happened during surgery I don't have any, or at least not as much as what I thought I would be getting in here.
I have no idea how I am going to be when I get home. Not allowed to do any heavy lifting, how am I going to deal with the kids? My life is my kids, if I can't look after them properly what am I going to do. No one here seems to understand that I'm going to need help when I get home.
In saying all that the staff in ICU have been good.
Part 2
Well I'm starting to feel a little better. I've just been told that I am to stay in hospital for another 24 hours which means that I will be transferred to the ward at some stage today and will be able to see the BCN after all.
Part 3
Arrived in the Acacia Ward (cancer ward) just after 12 noon. Before leaving ICU I had written a thank you note and made 2 loop band bracelets for my ICU nurses as I felt that they had both completed their duties in due diligence and that to receive recognition for this is probably one of the few things that make them giving up their time away from family & loved ones worth while.
Part 4
Finally saw the BCN happy with info she gave me, ordered bra and My Care kit, she also gave me a cushion for where I had surgery and a matching bag.
When I first arrived on Thursday afternoon I was in Midwifery (don't know why, can only assume that was where a bed was available). I have given the midwife that was on duty a loop band bracelet as well as she was absolutely lovely. I'm thinking of giving Tania (BCN) and Ben a pink loop band bracelet when I get some more pink bands as they are working in the cancer ward.
Finally I would like to thank all staff at PPH whils during this blog I may have gotten frustrated I think it is just a case that I was frustrated at what had happened with the allergic reaction, I have never had an allergic reaction before, all staff were professional at all times.
