Hormone Therapy

I have seeked the opinions of two professionals and both said if they were in my situation neither would take the tamoxifen.

Before their opinions I did not and was not keen to take tamoxifen as I am two percent positive therefore this drug would not give me the benefits I need.

I have decided not to take tamoxifen.

I'm also aware that there is at least one clinical trial (UK) of tamoxifen for triple neg.

Part of the difficulty with treatment seems to be that triple negative is not one type of cancer, but a sort of 'miscellaneous' category for anything that doesn't have one of the three common receptors. My four tumours could have all had different characteristics! This complicates research and underlines the advice that so many women give on this page; what works for one may not work for others. 

Certainly there appears to be good reasons for including tamoxifen in your treatment plan. It's showing 'some promise' and seems unlikely to do you any harm. On that basis, in your situation, I'd be deciding to go ahead with it.

But, of course, everyone is different and you need to be happy with your own decision.

Thanks Ladies for your input. My oncologist called it Hormone Therapy and no it is not Hormone Replacement Therapy. Yeah Diane I gathered those ladies misread my words.

 I am perimenopausal and I am one of the very lucky ones of whom I do not suffer the symptoms of menopause. I have not to date menstruated since 25 April 2014 and I am hoping 'bloody mary" stays away, lol.

Diane, you sure have given me something to think about and question my oncologist about preventing a positive result.

Hi Meree, I'm wondering if you mean hormone treatment? The ladies who responded are talking about hormone replacement therapy. I'm also triple negative, but was diagnosed with ER+ the first time round. The cancer came back as triple negative. The Oncologist didn't really know whether I should take the tabs or not (I was an unusual case) and said it was up to me if I wanted to continue the hormone therapy from the first cancer. He said it wouldn't hurt. Worst case scenario is that it wouldn't do anything! So I changed from Arimidex which caused joint pain and bone loss, to Tamoxifen. It's much better!! Very tolerable. So I'd say yes. The treatment at least will prevent a positive cancer coming back. There's not much we triple negatives can do about preventing a negative one eh. Cheers Diane
