Hormone therapy side effects and Endorphins
I read on the blog of terrible side effects many on hormone therapy endure.Three major ones seem to be depression, body aches/ pain and insomnia
Many years ago I was fascinated by a group of young blokes seemingly addicted to daily jogging. I was told exercise releases a hormone called endorphins of similar chemical structure to morphine and they enjoyed a “runners high” from jogging.I also noted their ability to deal with pressure seemed to be better possibly due to this hormone.
I also remember a friend suffering post natal depression having exercise as part of her treatment.
I have had a bit of a look today online and there is much about endorphins and their impact on these side effects.
It may not help all but it may help some to explore this option.I think my management of Letrozole is helped by daily walking for an hour.It also helps with my weight which is not entirely the result of Letrozole.
I would never have described myself as an advocate of exercise but I am now. I also found it hard starting out as the terrain near home can be steep and I was far from fit.I also had back pain but found I could walk thru it.
Just a thought.

- Kiwi_AngelMember@Blossom1961 I would of thumped him in the knackers and stolen it ;)
@AllyJay hilarious :D - Blossom1961Member@AllyJay I am actually claustrophobic but that gas mask is my lovely friend. Give me that over any of the other drugs anyday, or everyday will do!
- AllyJayMember@Blossom1961, when I was in labour, my husband kept trying to get me to use the gas. The idea of something over my face horrified me and in the end I yelled at him "If you think the F**king gas is so fantastic, why don't you F**king suck on it!!!" The midwife then said that I must be in transition as I was swearing. My hubby soon set her straight on that one and assured her that was my usual method of communication when stressed, transition or not.
- Blossom1961Member@Kiwi Angel Send some down! What a brilliant idea. I love the gas in the dentist office except I am too terrified to ever go in the first place. When I was in labour they gave my hubby charge of it. Hmph, I had to fight him for it as he didn’t think I should need it unless I was contracting. I wanted it ALL the time.
- arpieMemberHmmm .... just sucking on some Baileys right now ;) I should sleep well tonight!
I sort of equate the endorphins with my main 2 activities - yak & uke! I think (and hope) that if you become involved enough in ANY activity that you really enjoy - that the endorphins will follow and allow you to do it without fear of pain/discomfort. I find that just by concentrating on that one activity - it takes your minds off BC for the time that you are participating in it and hopefully, your body will benefit from it.
Take care xx - Kiwi_AngelMemberMmmmm gin and pomengranate.
@kmakm never been one for creamy/milky drinks and the first thing I ever got drunk on was my mums sherry so anything remotely like that brings back traumatic memories ;)
I have joked about being home some gas anaesthetic from work and making some vaporiser type thing that just gives a gentle dose all night. I actually now kind of get Michael Jackson and his propofol thing. - kmakmMemberBaileys @"Kiwi Angel", or port. Those have been the best alcoholic drinks for me in my lifetime!
- ZoffielMemberMaybe you should. If it makes you sleep youd have to consider what was the greater risk, liver damage or living in a state of perpetual exhaustion that makes you a walking danger zone. Gin and pomegranate would probably be fine...
- Kiwi_AngelMemberMaybe I should just have a gin every night!
- ZoffielMemberOr add vodka to it :)
