Hormone therapy side effects and Endorphins
I read on the blog of terrible side effects many on hormone therapy endure.Three major ones seem to be depression, body aches/ pain and insomnia
Many years ago I was fascinated by a group of young blokes seemingly addicted to daily jogging. I was told exercise releases a hormone called endorphins of similar chemical structure to morphine and they enjoyed a “runners high” from jogging.I also noted their ability to deal with pressure seemed to be better possibly due to this hormone.
I also remember a friend suffering post natal depression having exercise as part of her treatment.
I have had a bit of a look today online and there is much about endorphins and their impact on these side effects.
It may not help all but it may help some to explore this option.I think my management of Letrozole is helped by daily walking for an hour.It also helps with my weight which is not entirely the result of Letrozole.
I would never have described myself as an advocate of exercise but I am now. I also found it hard starting out as the terrain near home can be steep and I was far from fit.I also had back pain but found I could walk thru it.
Just a thought.

- Kiwi_AngelMemberThanks @Romla that’s so sweet
- RomlaMember@"Kiwi Angel" Happy to mail you some Sleepytime to try.PM me an address
- RomlaMemberTbh camomile tea I am not fond of but Sleepytime is pleasant as it has other flavours mixed in.It could be drunk cold when required.
- Kiwi_AngelMemberThanks for the tip @Zoffiel. I have been spraying my belly with magnesium oil too - supposed to help sore joints but help sleeping if u spray it on the belly - I tend to disagree ;)
- ZoffielMemberTry putting a teaspoon of pomegranate juice in it @"Kiwi Angel" I'm a miserable failure when it comes to sleeping, but I'm pretty sure the chamomile doesn't make things worse.
I didn't like the taste either but pomegranate is astringent enough to make it palatable but not sweet; I try to avoid sweeteners at night. I make two cups, drink one when I go to bed and leave the other on the bedside table. That's my night time drink and I don't mind it cold. It sounds disgusting, but isn't. - Kiwi_AngelMember@Romla I’m not one to get up when I wake up or I definitely won’t get back to sleep and I have tried but am unable to make myself like chamomile tea - I wish I did like it as I would add it to my evening regime. Thanks for your suggestion xoxo
- RomlaMember@"Kiwi Angel" this may be simplistic but have you tried camomile tea to help get you back to sleep ? Celestial Seasonings market a nice one in the supermarkets called Sleepytime.
- RomlaMemberYep @Deanne my family too.
- DeanneMemberMy experience convinces me that exercise can help with the mood side of these drugs @Romla. The difference in my mood and my ability to cope with the hurdles in life is obvious to myself and those around me. So much so that my family go out of their way to encourage me to fit my exercise in each day! ;) That and my one morning coffee! xxx
- Kiwi_AngelMember@Romla - prime example - I’m wide awake at 2.30wm. By the time I get back to sleep (if I do) and my alarm goes off at 5am I’ll just feel horrible and no way will I be able to get up. I envy your sleeping xo
