Hi I'm a little scared about my oncologist appointment tomorrow

Hi Ladies,

I've been reading up about chemo not on Dr Google because most of the stuff on the internet isn't true but I've been reading the books from the my journey kit which I always read over and over again but I now focus on the chemo section and it sort of makes me a little fearful of the journey ahead, sometimes I go to sleep and wake up in the morning thinking this is all a bad dream then I see my scars from surgery and I know I'm not dreaming but to me it's still a never ending nightmare today I fear I'm really going to need my friends I can't wait till I take Angelena to school because then I can let out my tears and my despair theirs always someone there to cheer me up I don't feel so alone or in the depths of despair I'm sure those of you who have been where I am right now knows what I'm thinking is there anymore cancer in my nodes if there is my cancer according to my research will get upgraded to stage 3 and that scares me as the doctors haven't officially graded my cancer yet but as things stand right now it's stage 2b early bc if I hear the words early bc one more time I'm going to scream or throw a temper tantrum like a 2 year old and now I can't stand to hear the words at least you caught it early it just makes me angrier if only I could share this with anyone else except my bff and you ladies. That's all for now desperate for a pick me up.

Cyber hugs and positive thoughts to everyone,

  • Hello Ladies, I am C2 D5 suffering the many side effects today, upset tummy, mouth tastes like its on fire with metal, fatigue, haven't been sleeping very well but as I said C2 it seems to be the same as C1 went maybe a bit less severe. and if that's the case I should start to kick the worst of the side effects in about 3 days, then slowly I'll feel better to almost human. Before its almost time to go for C3. I have done a few things differently this time,  I'm taking supplements Calcetrate, Vitamen  D, Zinc and a probiotic  I'm excercising lightly on the crap days and a bit more when I can. I'm having naps of about 20 mins then getting up and moving for a few hours. Love to all.

Hi Anita, radiotherapy starts next Tuesday, 18th August. Will have to stay in Melbourne, 5 hours away from my home in Orbost. Anyway, have lots of places to stay, and I will be closer to be able to visit my Mum, who is 91 and having skin cancers removed on the 19th. Will be thinking of you, Trace ????

Hi Anita, take heart Honey, as my cancer is grade 3a. I've finished chemo, and it went quickly, as I just took it 1 appointment at a time. The oncology team are awesome and give you lots of support to manage your side effects. I'm just about to start radiotherapy and will have the same approach. I have faith that I'm surrounded by professionals who really care and that I'm receiving the very best of care. The likelihood of my getting more cancer is there, but my odds are significantly reduced. So it's worth it. Keep checking in with us all, it's a good place to vent. Remember, 1 appointment / treatment at a time, love from Trace ????????

  • Hi Anita

It is very scary but it is doable! I am having round 4 out of 8 chemo tomorrow. And yes I am dreading it but it is what I must do to get better so that I can see my children grow. The side effects that are listed for the chemo drugs are all real and knowing that, it is important to work out a plan that suits yourself and your family to help keep you positive to get through them. I walk my dog everyday and that is how I work through the effects of what I am going through and keep myself positive. Sometimes straight after treatment it is only a short walk but by week 3 after chemo I can walk a lot further....... Good Luck and Look to the future xx

  • Hi Anita. I know it sounds all a bit daunting now as i have been through it also. I remember i sat down when i got my journey kit and read it all in one go. And then i cried my eyes out for what lied ahead. Then i realised that with baby steps everything is achievable. Take it one day at a time. I didnt lose all my hair as i was offered scalp cooling but i had my thick curly hair cut short as i lost it where the cap didnt fit properly on top. I found a new appreciation for hats and beanies. Stay strong and dont look too far ahead.

  • Hi Lorraine,

I guess it's not knowing what to expect as I've heard that oncologists tell you how it is all they want is what's best for you all your doctors do, my surgeon who I have had as my surgeon since 2009 has put me in touch with all the best doctors and I trust his judgement I think the most daunting thing for me is I have beautiful thick brown hair and so many people over the years have said to me I'd do anything to have hair like yours and I suppose you take small comments like that for granted but as my cousin just said to me in an email your hair will grow back and probably even more beautiful, little things like that and the support I recieve on here and from my family and friends are what I need to get me through this journey and sometimes through the day.

    Sending big hugs your way,

  • Hi Anita, you are allowed to be scared.  When I was first dx I saw no future for myself.  I cried, many times and I was scared.  I had advanced breast cancer.  To begin with I worried so much about what stage cancer it was. I had convinced myself that I would not see boys grow into young adults. I would google life expectancy. Much of this worry did go when I started chemo and I began to take on a more positive attitude.  Yes, I did have cancer, but I was going to do whatever it took to beat it. I have had 8 rounds of chemo, double mas, 30 lymph nodes removed and 5 weeks of rads. I am now cancer free. I still feel anxious at times, but I know that is normal.

All the best for your appointment tomorrow.  I am sure you have been told this many times, but do ask lots of questions and you know you can get lots of advice here from the many of us who have been through it.

Sending a big HUG your way.

    Lorraine
