Goodbye HRT hello night sweats

Hello  ladies. I was on HRT for a number of years before my breast cancer diagnosis a month ago.
My pre HRT symptoms are all making a come back and I can say unlike some bands from the 70s and 80s this come back is certainly not being met with excitement

  • Good to hear your symptoms are easing, that it great. Before HRT wine and chocolate set my flushes off worse
  • Hi @Collpepsi, I also went cold turkey with HRT following my diagnosis 12 months ago. My cancer was 100% receptive to both ER and PR. I've been on Arimidex for 11 months and also feel my symptoms are easing.  Before taking HRT I was getting lots of flushes both day and night. Now I get the occasional one during the day, just my face. Of course! It couldn't be somewhere hidden could it!  Like Brenda, I do the blanket flip a couple of times during the night but it doesn't really interrupt my sleep.  Not looking forward to summer tho!  Hope you get some relief soon.  Jane xx
  • I had my ovaries out in December ( a decision related to my need for hormone therapy) Now, I don't know if it was just timing, but the revolting sweat/flush/repeat business that had been making me miserable for a couple of years stopped. Just. Like. That. I still have the odd 'flare' but nothing like what I'd suffered before. Go figure, I thought it would get worse, but it didn't.
  • Thanks Brenda5,
Before I went onto HRT day and night time were a nightmare for hot flushes!
The HRT gave me sleep and probably more importantl my husband a break from the mood swings
  • You will get used to them. I sleep with a fan on now, even in winter. I have a doona which I flip on and off all night. I sort of half wake and do it and half wake and pull it back on when I am freezing. My night ones aren't as bad as the day ones. Some day ones seem to be activated with emotions like stress or excitement. Some are mild and I slip my coat and slippers off for a few minutes and back on but others are like pin pricks where I need to put the fan on and rub a wet towel on my face and back of neck. The heat seems to originate from the back of my neck and my son put his hand there during and episode and went omg it is very hot. Just when you think you will internally combust, it subsides. Either they get less often or you learn to adapt. It is what it is I'm afraid. Edit- almost forgot, carry a water bottle with you at all times. The cold water in your belly makes a flush pass faster, especially when you are out.
