Finished ! :-)

Hello to all my pink sisters out there,  just keeping you all posted that yesterday was my LAST chemo & no radiotherapy either....YAY!!!  Now to see the surgeon on the 20th of October and then the plastic surgeon for reconstruction :-)  Now for all you ladies that have finished your chemo do you have any tips on losing the excess weight gained from taking the dexamethozone steriods.....of course i'm still taking them at the moment so in a few weeks time I will start to hopefully lose the excess fluid weight..I have cut out sugar and am eating weight watchers products for my sugar cravings this time after chemo as I have been very lax at just eating what i've felt like it during the past 3 sessions....how ever 1 of my fav things for my ulcers was passionfruit yogurt but still I've put on 12kgs  %-S

Anyway all tips to getting back healthy after all the poision thats been pumped in to us all will be most welcome.

brightest blessings to you all,  Susan xxxx

  • Hi Susan

I'm having my reconstruction in Melbourne @ Frances Perry House.  I am actually having my right breast removed (bc of strong family history) and both reconstructed at the same time.  My breast size will be smaller than before (D down to C cup) but that's fine with me.  Like you I would prefer to use my own tissue.

It's a big decision to make and my husband and I spent a lot of time going through all the pros and cons before finally deciding.  My plastic surgeon was great.  Although he thought this was the best way to go he clearly laid out all the facts and even showed us a slideshow of images before, during (yuck) and after surgery.  The during surgery pics gave us a very clear understanding of this method so I can't say I am gong in uninformed.  Once the decision was made and surgery booked I felt really good - I just wish I could have had it sooner and got it over and done with.  Now and then I get an attack of the nerves.

So for now I am just trying to get myself strong and healthy for the big day.  I walk a lot and also try to stick to a diet of mostly fresh food.  My other tip for cleansing after chemo is to cut back on highly processed/unhealthy food.  I don't cut it out completely just try to do the right thing about 75% of the time.  I still need my coffee!!

Good luck in making your decision about reconstruction. At the end of the day it's your body so only you can decide what's best for you.

    Take care

    Ann-Marie xx

  • Hey Anne-Marie Thanks for the tips :-) I'm hoping to use my tummy fat for my reconstruction as well although my breast care nurse thinks there are more important issues @ hand with other patients which I'm sure there are.... & I should go for the simple way & just have silicone implant which I don't want.... I'd rather use my own tissue thanks rather than more poisonous thing put in me, so I have my surgeons appointment on the 20th of this month so well see! Are you having your reconstruction in Melbourne? Or are you in another state?
  • Hi Susan

Well done on finishing chemo - and lucky for you not to need radio (I don't need it either).

As for tips on getting healthy - this is what I have done (Although I don't want to lose weight just yet as they are using my tummy tissue for my reconstruction in November).

    - Drink heaps of water

    - Lemon juice in hot water to start the day

    - Lots of walking

    - Learn to pace myself as I still get tired easily.

    - Everything in moderation!

    Brightest blessings to you too!
