Hi Susan
I'm having my reconstruction in Melbourne @ Frances Perry House. I am actually having my right breast removed (bc of strong family history) and both reconstructed at the same time. My breast size will be smaller than before (D down to C cup) but that's fine with me. Like you I would prefer to use my own tissue.
It's a big decision to make and my husband and I spent a lot of time going through all the pros and cons before finally deciding. My plastic surgeon was great. Although he thought this was the best way to go he clearly laid out all the facts and even showed us a slideshow of images before, during (yuck) and after surgery. The during surgery pics gave us a very clear understanding of this method so I can't say I am gong in uninformed. Once the decision was made and surgery booked I felt really good - I just wish I could have had it sooner and got it over and done with. Now and then I get an attack of the nerves.
So for now I am just trying to get myself strong and healthy for the big day. I walk a lot and also try to stick to a diet of mostly fresh food. My other tip for cleansing after chemo is to cut back on highly processed/unhealthy food. I don't cut it out completely just try to do the right thing about 75% of the time. I still need my coffee!!
Good luck in making your decision about reconstruction. At the end of the day it's your body so only you can decide what's best for you.
Take care
Ann-Marie xx
