I have been giving my Neulasta Injection to myself after each of the 3 FEC hits the following day. Once again, everyone experiences something different with it. I did it on my own the first time and the spring release didnt pull back. Found out thats just to pull the needle back in. I get a bit of a red face for a couple of days and not much more, a bit more sleep sometimes aching legs but thats just like lack of use -nothing major. Every time I have Fec I feel worse for the first week to 10 days. This time I have added anti nausea for that! Its all such a joy isnt it!

Oncologist has scheduled neulasta for day after next chemo due next Wednesday.
I've heard that it knocks you around and you feel like you have the flu.
I came home yesterday with w/cell count at 2.1 and neuts at 1.7. good enough.
I don't care how silly I look, but I am wearing a mask if I am going to be around crowds from now on.

I think I was in hosp for a week, & bored bored bored - but alive.
It can be as quick as 24 hrs for an infection to get hold when white cell counts drop too low.
What they may do next chemo session is give you the Neulasta injection (I had it 3 times) which bumps up your white blood cell count, so when it goes down, you are still safe from infection with high enough counts.
It is a tough solution, your body ramps up cell production and it takes alot out of you, it also stopped me from sleeping for approx 2 days, but it does keep you safe :)

Yes it does seem a bit scarey. I still have my Penny Portacath in (Specialist wanted it in for 2 years - time is up in April) When it was inserted I had a big blood clot that lasted as a giantic bruise for 9 weeks - so although I want it out I am apprehensive about a similar occurence. I mentioned this at Oncology today whilst I was having the portacath flushed and the nurse said the "right thing" to me. It won't necessarily do the same when it comes out. So that is my thought to you - next chemo will be fine and won't cause you the same issues. The oncology nurses/medical oncologist will prescribe an injection that you will need to administer on your second day after chemo. That is how it was for me. Good luck with your move.
