DIEP - What do I Need for Hospital?
Hi Ladies,
Single mastectomy and DIEP recon happening for me on 29th of this month. I have had some advice from various people about what to take to hospital. Here is my list so far. What else do you think I might need (Don't worry about entertainment stuff- they are the first items I will pack!). Advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Good post surgery bras and knickers
Button up PJ's
Soft waist elasticated pants
Zip up tracky tops.
Headwear - beanies and cool cotton headscarves
Some basic make up to feel some sort of 'nice'
Personal fan
Constipation attack meds: movicol, actilax, coloxyl etc.
Everyday meds: Vit D, fish oil, iron etc
Extension chord to charge my phone.

I think you'll love it in the breast recon group Jo. I've found it to be amazing. K xox - Thanks so much ladies. I have a list now to fill in the next couple of weeks...I'm gonna look like I have come to stay for weeks! (Don't want to give them the wrong idea!)

- Hospital rooms are usually either too cold or too hot. Mine was cold, so a big scarf/wrap was useful, esp if you're post chemo & short on hair... Good to go over your knees too, towards the end of your stay when you're sitting up more.
- It depends on the hospital you're going into. I took my teabags as advised but the ones the hospital provided were fine. I took Coloxyl but the hospital provided it, and Movicol. They are obsessed with one's motions!
I had my DIEP 13 days ago & started the same thread in the Choosing Breast Reconstruction group, 'Shopping Advice For The Operation". Got some great advice. Head on over and have a look if you'd l like to.
Someone suggested an aromatherapy infuser. I took one in and it was lovely. The nurses like it too.
An extendable back scratcher - brilliant.
But best of all was the sheepskin. Absolutely invaluable! I can send you a link if you're interested. K xox - Face wipes - I found that my face felt constantly greasy in hospital.
- @JJ70. Maybe hold off on the fish oil as they didn’t like it during my previous surgeries cause it can increase bleeding - it was a question in the admission form. A pillow for under your arm can be good but you should bet one from a breastcare nurse. Good luck with your surgery. Xoxoxx
- Also decent tea and coffee and a dressing gown with wide sleeves as the more fitting ones are a bugger to get into. I took my kindle as holding a book was heavy in my hands. Could also read it in bed without my glasses by just increasing the font size. Sweeties such as barley drops or similar boiled type like from the till in pharmacies. Keep the mouth moist and for me were soothing. (My adult dummy...suck..suck...). Bendy straws.
