Dexamethasone

Hi all,
So tomorrow is my first Taxol (dose dense) and my oncologist (Prof Chan in Perth) has put me on 10 x 4mg of dexamethasone - 5 12 hours before treatment and another 5 6 hours before treatment. When I asked her about the full on dosage, she said it was to safeguard me against anaphylactic shock. It just seems like so much!! Has anyone else had this many?? I don't want an allergic reaction so I should just trust her but it freaks me out a little. I have to have 5 at midnight with food and then another 5 at around 6am with food..... Thanks ladies, your support as always is the best!!

  • I just had to have 1 tablet with breakfast before treatment. She might lower the dose once she sees your reaction . I was totally knoccked out with the phernegan on my first chemo so they swithed to Clarantyne the next week with no probs.
  • I had Dex with all my chemo and lots as a pre med with the Docetaxel I had three weekly. I HATED having it IV it made me feel pretty yuck. I tolerated it orally much better. It's to safeguard you from lots of unwanted side effects. Hugs xx
  • Wow lucky you getting Professor Chan. Trust her all the way. She is the best and yes Taxol is known to cause allergic reactions.
  • I had the dex through my drip, but mine was weekly paclitaxil. Can they not give it through your port if you have one?.
