Damn it damn it damn it white blood cells too low for next FEC round.

Really feeling let down. First review with the Onc today, was supposed to go straight to Chemo but can't. White blood cells at .82 on Saturday, can't go in until they are at least 1.2, preferably at 1.5.
Can they go up that much in 4 days?
I am scheduled to go back on Wednesday.
and, of course, I have to have the injection to get my white blood cells up with the next round. Oh joy!
Can someone please give me the link to the discussion on the side effects of the injection, I know I saw it but can't find it.
I was feeling so well this week, I can't believe it.

  • Thank you for the information, ladies. On the bright side I have two more "feel good" days that I hadn't counted on so today the tax got finished and the ironing is now up to date. Tomorrow I will wash the floors, get a blood test and visit the horse.
So now I have got over the disappointment, it is not all bad.
I have never given myself an injection before, but I am sure the nurses will show me what to do before I leave.
This learning experience never seems to miss finding new challenges.
  • It happens, @Unicornkisses. The white cells fluctuation thing is a bit of a mystery, and yes, it's possible for them to do a substantial bounce.
Don't stress too much about the Neulasta, most people cope without major side effects. Claratyne helped me when I got to the stage it was a deal breaker. Chemo is a lucky dip, I've had crap responses in some ways but have never had any nausea--you only know how you will react when it happens to you.
  • It will go up and you will continue. We are not in control. Just enjoy the recovery time.x
  • Hey @Unicornkisses, its so hard when it happens and the crap thing is theres nothing you can do about it at all, its purely just your body will get the levels in its own time. It can delay the treatment process, but no rhyme or reason how it happens. Hang in there. Melinda xo
  • We are all different and respond differently. I was lucky and had few side effects. I took panadol  also for muscle ache but I wasnt too bad. Its odd how you get over one thing eg chemo and something else pops up. I recently had radiation. That was fine, minor burns but then got a motor cuff shoulder injury which has stopped me from driving, sometimes you just cant win.
  • Hi Unicornkisses, I too had to wait a week before the 2nd round of FEC due to my low count, very annoying when you prepare yourself mind & body for the next session.  I was quite shocked as I felt so well. Had the Neulasta injection each round from then on. I got bone & muscle ache, I used panadol plus it seemed to help if I did some excercise eg a walk, bike ride. I always thought of the ache as my body making good white cells :)
  • Hi Unicornkisses, I had the Neulasta injection while undergoing my AC chemo treatment. I thankfully had minor side effects from the injection and hopefully you will too. The main side effect that I was advised about was pain in your hips and joints, I had a little bit of an ache in my hips and legs for a couple of days, I took panadol osteo during the day to help and also made sure that I walked each day. I know my reaction to the injection was mild compared to others, but I know that having the injection helped protect me while completing the course of AC.

I hope your treatment goes well
