Confused
Hi everyone
i am brand new to this group and am hoping someone can help me through some confusion.
A long story that I can hopefully cut short.
I have had a sore left breast and shoulder now for awhile 3 years or so. Mammogram and ultrasound three years ago showed lots of ducts on the side but no other issues.
Due to it still be there 3 years later I recently self initiated an appointment and went to breast screen and had a mammogram to check it out. I was recalled today and had a an ultrasound and mammogram. Spoke to the dr and given the all clear and to come again in 2 years.
now here the story gets interesting.....
I mentioned to my gp at a visit 4 weeks ago that it was still sore and she suggested a shoulder and back X-ray and ultrasound and mammogram through a imaging place. I thought what the heck I'd do them both. So I had the second tests and have visited my dr ( who wanted to see me within ten days of the results) and she has advised that I need to have a fine needle biopsy in my left breast as the tests shown slightly enlarged milk ducts and some tiny white spots.
So so my questions.
she didn't need to see me asap only within ten days. Would this mean it's not urgent / critical?
why would one screen be clear and the other not??
what do the dots mean and the milk ducts?
Im feeling to anxious and scared and confused.

- Brenda5MemberIt must depend on the testing centre. My GP sent me for ultrasound and mammogram but the testing centre then did a fine needle biopsy on the spot. My GP hadn't even been told of the abnormal results let alone be contacting a surgeon specialist. My blood tests didn't show anything abnormal.
- melclarityMemberGreat Pippy! Sorry Im in Melbourne, I do know there was one lady up there, so maybe do new discussion with the heading Anyone know a Breast Surgeon in Port Macquarie? in General so everyone can see. Let us know how you go. x
- PippyMemberOff to the gp in 10 minutes. I'll will discuss the breast surgeon with her. Thank you for that tip everyone.
I am in port Macquarie - any recommendations? - melclarityMemberPippy, yes I can imagine its all playing havoc and creating much anxiety! So deep breath. Ok...so you ask your GP for a referral for a Breast Surgeon, where abouts are you? as we may all be able to recommend someone which is half the battle. There is a massive difference a GP is just that, they are not a specialist in the field at all and if you want to know exactly what is going on, the Breast Surgeon can tell you absolutely everything its your absolute best bet for relief honestly. Know that a week or more isnt going to affect anything. xo

A breast Surgeon is a specialist who is more aware of Breast related concerns...
it is like if you have a tooth ache you don't see the GP you see the dentist as they are trained in dealing with teeth, your GP might organise antibiotics but a dentist would decide if the tooth has other problems etc.
you have a right to see a breast surgeon for a 2nd opinion from what you have said. - primekMemberReferral from GP.
- PippyMemberI am still waiting on the call to go for a breast biopsy. The wait is killing my mental Heath. When I called they said the biopsy was prioritized by the dr and i will be called sometime next week???
how do I see a breast surgeon? What do they do differently? - primekMemberActually knowing myself what I know now I would prefer to see a breast surgeon to be thorough, regardless of biopsy results.
- mum2jjMemberHey Pippy, and I am not sure where you are but in QLD breast screen are only able to report on findings that they believe are cancer. Private clinics however report on changes and other stuff. I am not sure of the reason. In Cairns where I am if you have any symptoms you are not able to self refer to breast screen but need to go to a doctor and get a referral to a private clinic? It's a bit weird as they are the same place in the middle, but with different offices/entrances. It's all a bit of bureaucracy. I think go with the second follow up tests, the earlier anything detected the better, also if it is nothing it will give you peace of mind, rather than wait two years.
hugs
Paula xx - melclarityMemberHey Pippy! So Breast Screen Mammos and U/sounds were normal come back in 2 years right? independent mammo and u/sound showed enlarged milk ducts and spots(calcification) now is it your GP mentioned about a needle biopsy? To be honest because of the conflicting results Id see a breast Surgeon get their opinion then a needle biopsy if required. Hugs Melinda xo
