Hello Everyone, I have a quick question, my hair is starting to grow back and is very grey, Ah some people say it looks good while I believe for me Im too young to do grey, so I would really appreciate any advice on hair colour and what is recommended (if anything). I do worry about hair colour, but then I think to myself I had chemo! Wil check in later and introduce myself properly. Thanks to all you amazing Warriors! ruby2
I think it might depend on the type of reconstruction you are having.If you are having an implant then I don't see any issues.However,if you are having a DEIP or TRAM flap recon then it's a one off use of your abdominal fat and you can't have it again should you get cancer in the "good"breast.If you do test positive for the BRCA gene then you might consider a profilactic mastectomy. Thank you for your quick reply Paula. I found out that anothe Aunt who has since passed had some breast issues when she was younger, and I was advised by the Genetic counsellors if any other information arose from the family I was to let them know as previously I didnt qualify for testing, but now it seems I do, hence why now they are suggesting it before my imminent sugery. I could just wait and get my repeat re-construction out the way, but like you pointed out that may mean another 2 surgeries. Thank you again.

I have had long highlighted hair since 16 years of age and now have nothing but this coarse grey covering with side-burns. Your shared experiences in dyeing is a relief. In my Googling I found a good website : cancerhaircare.com which is also helpful. I learnt to tie my scarves in more interesting ways e.g a bun at the back which gives a more aluring look ??!

I held back colouring my hair for about 6 months. I just felt like Id gone from a young looking 47 to 57 and glad I took the step. I was scared because I am have sensitive skin, but never had trouble with colour before. So I did what is always recommended. SKIN ALLERGY TEST. I have been fine and I had no reaction to an Australia low chemical colour from DeLorenzo. Not done at home!
Yep mine grew back all grey. Stopped wearing wig at end of radiation , was heard but got used to new super short do- just glad to have hair. But it just got greyer & greyer .I tried to wait as long as i could because it seemed a waste of money to colour hair only 1cm long, but yep vanity won oout after a couple of months. Best thing i did, felt so much better. My hairdresser said the colours they use are much gentler & heaps better quality then chemist. Much safer. Its only dead protein so colour away,.Life to short to worry about every possible cancer chemical we might injest, inhale,absob.You got to have a balance that works for yourself & everyone is different.
