Breast pain 5 months after surgery ??

hello girls, I'm having intermittent breast pain and wondered if this is something new!
Everything had pretty much settled down and now the past couple of days I had a couple of spasms. Any thoughts ? Should I be concerned?

  • Sadly rebuilding nerves takes a long time, but it does happen.  I'm four months out from surgery.  I get the odd spasm, and have a lot of tight muscles which I'm still teaching to relax and stretch.  I had nerve damage from shingles 20 years ago, and although the intense pain eased over 12 months, it was 10 years before I was completely pain free.  However I found, and find now, that as life gets busy, and distractions come along, I am less conscious of minor irritations.  And then there are those delightful days when you realise its been hours since you thought about your breasts.  :)
Do make sure you discuss it with your specialists and GP though.  If it's limiting your life, it's not something to put up with.
  • Normal

At 5 months, it's totally possible that you still have nerves regrowing near the surface (which felt to me as if I had sunburn someone kept slapping), and your scar tissue is still really fresh.

Surgery is a trauma, it can take a long time for your body to adapt to the changes. I get spams and shooting every few days a year on, they're just part of life now.

If you find yourself in so much pain that you're hunched over and crying though, get to the clinic. x
  • I still get pain ten years after the great tit lopping. It does seem to be worse if I am tired or stressed. Mines probably more attributable to the reconstruction, but the thing I've learned to be conscious of is my posture. Pain makes me hunch, hunching gives me pain.
If it keeps up and starts affecting your lifestyle get some meds. A nice stash of relief works even if I don't take them. Sort of like the way bringing out the can of flyspray makes the blowies disappear :)
  • Hey Chanel! Nope, all normal, doesnt matter how much time passes there will always been a sharp pain a sting or just throb. Thats been my experience for the past 5yrs and its all to do with 2 major lumpectomies and lymph nodes removed. x Melinda
  • A year and a half after surgery and I still get pain. Got bad a month ago and had an ultrasound and found nothing. It does worry you though.
    Best wishes xo
  • Sorry girls 4.5 years l still get pain. My mum is 80 and had bc at 35 she still gets pain.
  • Hi Chanel, Mine seems to be doing similar things. Ive noticed it just the last couple of days but then again I've only started back at work after Xmas holidays too so for me that could have something to do with it. Hope yours starts behaving again soon (yours too @nikkid).
  • I have had similar Chanel - my surgeon says it's probably nerve pain...comes and goes...sometimes like a short sharp 'snap'!
