Breast oedema & cellulitis

Hi All

if anyone has tips or suggestions or knows where to find out about managing and getting rid of Breast oedema and cellulitis infections I would be very grateful for your information.

Thank you

  • Hi Amber, My lymphedema is in the arm, the ladies above are giving you great advice,  it's all about, compression, massage, gentle exercise etc. It's really important to see a lymphedema trained therapist.  You can google them.  There are many that claim to be but the real ones are listed on a lymphedema page. Have you done the encore program.  Absolute must for anyone with lymphedema.  I was lucky enough to attend a big lymphedema conference a couple of years ago and there were people there with lymphedema to all parts of their body.
    Good luck.

  • Hi Amber1, I don't have breast oedema but I still have fluid (not lymph fluid) from my mastectomy 9 months ago and my Lymphoedema nurse advised me to wear either a compression bra or wear a shapewear slip or top (similar to spanx). If it was oedema I would also go for massage. All the best, hope you can get it under control. Xx Cath
  • Hi Amber,
I had a lumpectomy which I recovered very quickly from . Three weeks later I had cellulitis. I had severe chills and fever and was hospitalized for four days. Six weeks later and after being on antibiotics for that time I am now back to normal. I was told that antibiotics and time would heal me,they did. The only explanation I was given was a bacteria entered the area.  The source of the bacteria could have been from  anywhere.
  • Hi Cosette,

Thank you very much for your resources and help

  • Hi there

I have eodema in the breast (not arm, or cellulitus).  I started going to the physio who had some experience with lymphodeama (get medicare rebate through GP management plan) but have now found a lady who does lymphatic drainage massage (through private health).  She recommended a compression bra which I now wear everyday. She ordered mine through Dickory Dock in Melebourne.  I have started back doing regular exercise for the last couple of months and the improvement has been great even without me doing my own massage daily.

The massage I get (was fortnightly, but now managing to go monthly) feels great and helps a lot.  And obviously, for me, regular exercise is also proving to be of assistance.

I have had mine for 12 months now, and from what I have been told it may always be with me.  It is a nuisance and some days I just refuse to do the massage because I am sick of it all!

Hope you find some relief and help.

  • Hi all

I have not had breast eodema, just the arm variety. I did have a persistent and large breast seroma and regret not getting massage treatment for that earlier as it finally led to a very bad infection, a week in hospital and surgery ( although that finally fixed it!).

But the two are not the same, so treatment may be very different.

  • Hi @amber1. This is not a subject I've seen a lot of discussion about. Hopefully a few members with experience with this will chime in. In the meantime, I'll leave you with a couple of resources:
@Vix @Afraser @mum2jj @"Soldier Crab" @Jane221- do you ladies have experience with breast oedema?
