Bilateral mastectomy done!
I am now at home recovering from surgery - double mastectomy with implants. I had the surgery on 13 July and it went well, although I had a major reaction to the anaesthetic drugs and morphine... Needless to say lots of vomiting and pain and no eating for 36 hours.
The staff at the Wesley hospital in Brisbane were lovely and my doctors were very caring, but it was a horrible time. I was in hospital for a week and had all 4 drains removed before coming home.
My post op appointment is Wednesday.
The staff at choices have been wonderful too. It was good to have caring people around supporting me through this huge op and decision.
At the moment I am managing the pain reasonably well and sleeping more than when I was in hospital, I think 4.5 hours in one stint is all I can manage at one time at the moment without pain killers, but have bee able to reduce the amount and potency.
It was good to talk to someone who has been there and done that, through the choices program and give me tips on what to expect and that what I am feeling and experiencing is normal.
The pressure on my chest is becoming bearable, however when the pain increases then so does the pressure. I feel very constricted in my movement and sometimes in my breathing and there really isn't a comfortable position to be in.
But each day is better.
