Back pain

Hello its me again. Everything has been going really well. I apologise to anyone who is haviing a tough time. I have the guilts as I expected it to be a lot harder. I know it's early days and possibly might be different next cycle. I was just wondering if anyone had some back pain?. A week after my neutrophils injection I had a day and a half where my back kept throbbing and I had small spasms. I thought it might be related to the injection as they list it as a side effect. It went away as quickly as it came. Thanks girls for answering my neverending queries πŸ’–
  • My partner insists that it's probably just my usual problem that crops up from time to time with my Sciatic nerve. This was a different kind of pain it felt like muscle spasms and nerve pain intertwined. It happened around my lower back where I do have a bit of osteoarthritis. I could actually feel it throbbing. I restricted my movement and I did go to the doctors as I was scheduled anyway. She prescribed a few medicines, one to protect my stomach, one is a mild anti inflammatory and another painkiller which to my shock wasn't on the pbs and was $48. I decided against the expensive one. I ended up not taking anything and then woke up the next morning  and the pain was completely gone. I thought I was going crazy. I definitely know it wasn't my imagination and it definitely was painful so I think I will take advice and ask about Claratyne before the next dose of chemo. Thanks to all for your input.
  • I had awful back and neck pain. It hurt to touch and I always felt like it felt like I was getting the flu....but never did. It lasted about 12 hours. I didn't know about tbe clarytine ay the time but have heard it helps.
  • Suzi, ask if you can take Claratyne antihistamines which many of us have found help with that bone pain. The injection, Neulasta, stimulates your bone marrow which some people find very painful, particularly in the pelvis and larger bones. I likened it to a total body toothache. Most unpleasant. I was at the point of refusing treatment when I discovered this 'hack' and it got me across the line.

Many practices recommend taking Loratadine (Claratyne) for 7 days starting the day before chemo as a matter of course to deal with the booster pain and other minor allergic reactions. There have been studies done about this, most of which have been inconclusive however the theory is the antihistamine ( it has to be that one) reduces bone odema. I've never heard anyone being told they shouldn't take it, so ring your onc before the next treatment and see if they are OK with you trying it. You may be told it doesn't work, but ask if there is a reason you shouldn't give it a go.
It costs $1 per day, which the cynic in me thinks contributes to the lack of interest in researching it properly. Good luck. MXX

  • I had that injection @Suzi_S61 and had quite bad general bone pain from it. If u are worried though get it checked with your GP.
