Back pain
Hello its me again. Everything has been going really well. I apologise to anyone who is haviing a tough time. I have the guilts as I expected it to be a lot harder. I know it's early days and possibly...
Suzi, ask if you can take Claratyne antihistamines which many of us have found help with that bone pain. The injection, Neulasta, stimulates your bone marrow which some people find very painful, particularly in the pelvis and larger bones. I likened it to a total body toothache. Most unpleasant. I was at the point of refusing treatment when I discovered this 'hack' and it got me across the line.
Many practices recommend taking Loratadine (Claratyne) for 7 days starting the day before chemo as a matter of course to deal with the booster pain and other minor allergic reactions. There have been studies done about this, most of which have been inconclusive however the theory is the antihistamine ( it has to be that one) reduces bone odema. I've never heard anyone being told they shouldn't take it, so ring your onc before the next treatment and see if they are OK with you trying it. You may be told it doesn't work, but ask if there is a reason you shouldn't give it a go.
It costs $1 per day, which the cynic in me thinks contributes to the lack of interest in researching it properly. Good luck. MXX
