Back Again.

It has been a bit of a long haul getting here....had some bad bruising after the op then got a staph infection..very painful, on my third lot of antibiotics and yesterday and today just starting to feel they are working.

Tomorrow we meet with the medical oncologist to see what chemo cocktail he thinks my body will like. I don't know if the infection will mean that I will have to wait a bit longer before starting chemo.

On a lighter note I would like to share with you mine and my son's sense of humour, remembering that as it was very painful for me to move and my husband was on crutches with gout at the same time so we were a mess, these are text msg when I started to feel better.

Me: You can put the Nursing Home Application Forms away...the oldies are on the move...slowly.

Matt: Are you sure, I have been looking around for you. There is a discount for couples.

(Cheeky buggar)

Me: I would like one with a swimming pool, massage parlour and gourmet food, your  Dad wants one with a bar and as your paying for it he will have paid tv.

Matt: Think I can pick one up cheap in Indonesia.

Me: Do you think that will be far enough away.

Matt: should be. lol

The Next Day.

Matt: how are the residents at the Lodge Nursing Home today.

Me: Ambulating well, how are the residents at the Crest Rd Social Centre?

Matt: Out and about attending daily activities.

They had been to the G/Coast for footy and the next weekend Coffs for an engagement party, hence my dig about the Social Centre.

I am sharing this as it made me feel really good to have this bit of fun with Matt as things had gotten so serious and I know he was worried and unable to come and help us.

When I got the infection I was so upset and really began to wonder how much more my body (and mind) could take and with chemo to look forward to had a bit of a melt down, which was probably good as now I feel strong again and ready for the next step.

Hope everyone is travelling their journey with no or little problems.

Cheerio for now,

Jacqui

  • Hi I know how you feel about the margins not being clear,I don't know if you have read my story but I had 3 lumpectomies with sentinel node removal, the last one had a margin clearance 0.6mm which my surgeon didn't feel was good enough so had a mastectomy on 2.3.11 with lymph node clearance, then another shock, they found another cancer 10mm seperate to the main cancer and also micrmatastasis in one of the 14 lymph nodes, so I went from presenting with a 2cm cancer to being 4.75cm apparently it was unusual and not showing up on the films. That is why I am going to have the chemo, I apparently like to keep things hidden!!!!!

Do you know what chemo you will be taking?

Yes a sense of humour does help but not always easy to maintain, but I find that I keep it bottled up for a while and then when I do have the "pity  party" feel a lot better and can move on.

It is a dreadful disease, but thank goodness the survival rate is so high not like 20 years ago.

    Nice to hear from you,

    Cheerio for now,

    Jacqui

  • That's a lovely post Jacqueline, a sense of humour often helps get us through the day!  My 14 year old daughter and i were talking the other day about the mastectomy I will need after chemo (the margins were not clear after my lumpectomy) and I am quite a large breasted woman, so when she asked me if I would have chicken fillets in my bra after surgery, i replied " chicken fillets? i'll need the whole bird!"

I start on my "jungle juice" on wednesday, and whilst I admit to being apprehensive, it's something we all must do in the fight against this awful disease, so good luck to you on your journey and stay strong...and smiling :)
