And Another Drug - Xgeva

Morning Everyone

Just wondering if any of the ladies having this injection have any issues/side effects and how is it given - needle to arm, vein, muscle?  Different oncologist has decided I should be receiving it, but I didn't get a chance to discuss with him as he picked it up after I had left and I won't be seeing him before my next treatment.

Thanks for any information you can give me

Kari

  • Apologies... The other comments jogged my memory, yes it was given in his stomach! He had a few things done in those go visits... Apologies again Xx

  • Hi Kari

As mentioned below and I forgot to let you know! Dental work will need to be done before you commence! I had new fillings and two crowns before I started! There is a serious side effect called ONJ! So you will certainly need to let your dentist know too! Good luck! Xx

  • Hi. I've been having xgeva for 15 months. It's given as an injection into your stomach. I have been told to take caltrate bone health every day to make sure calcium level is ok as it can drop especially in the first week after the injection. The other important thing is good dental hygiene as you can get jaw problems so brush after every meal.

  • Hi Kari

Good Morning! I have had three of these injections at six weekly intervals at my medical clinic! It is given to me in the stomach! Don't feel a thing and I have not had any side effects to date! My calcium and Vitamin D levels were done a week later for the first two injections! I am off to my oncologist Tuesday week!

Best of luck and warm wishes

  • Hi Kari,

My Dad was given this drug for his Prostate Cancer that metastasized to his bones...it was given to him in his butt cheek by his GP..I've checked my treatment journal i kept for him and .no real side effects to say other than that your calcium levels must be closely monitored?....

Of course, you should consult your doctor/team with any questions and get the information from him/her....

    Wishing you all the best

    Tracy xx
