- Anne65Member@GavinCh I had 3 weeks of rad following my surgery. It was suggested by my radiation oncologist that I use this clear film called Mepitel as Giovanna has mentioned above. Its sort of like glad wrap & they stick in on your skin on the area that will be zapped. My great niece called it my invisible skin! You do get used to it & you can shower with it & the nurses will keep checking on it to make sure it hasnt bubbled & will fix any tears. You keep it on for the entire treatment plus 2 weeks after as that is when the rad hits its peak. You can them remove it yourself. I found it FANTASTIC & you dont use ANY creams while you have it on. It protects your skin & at the end of the treatment, i didnt have ANY redness or peeling. You couldnt even tell that I even had rad treatment. I have seen many images of bad rad burns & i feel so blessed that my rad onc put me onto this. It didnt cost me anything but I have heard others that have said their clinic didnt supply it or they would have to pay for it as it is relatively new & is expensive for them to provide. Please ask your specialist if you can use this as the outcome is so good. Please give our love to karen & it is wonderful that you have found us & hopefully you are getting lots of help from the wonderful people of this forum. Hugs to you both xx

I recently attended the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia conference and there was lots of discussion regarding radiation therapy and skin care. One product mentioned was Mepitel film. It is applied to the skin prior to the commencement of radiation and can significantly reduce skin reactions. It might be a good idea to check with the radiation team to see if they use this film. - GavinChMemberThank you so much for your suggestion, I'll pass this on to Karen and let her know. xx
- BlondyMember@GavinCh .if you go to the moogoo website they do an oncology pack. It has deodorant, body wash, cream, some samples of tinted face moisteruser and a pair of cow patterned socks. It works out hugely cheaper than buying them separately. It arrives pretty quick too.
- kezmuscMemberI used the Moogoo as well. Three times a day and immediately after treatment. I had 30 rounds with minimal burns until about number 25 then used solisite gel and manuka honey gold cream for the ouchy bits towards the end. Then flamazene after I finished which cleared everything up really quickly,
- SisterMemberI used Moo Goo Udder Cream on the weekends and after rads. I had Mepitel film on during the week (but I had to request it)
- _Millie_MemberHi @GavinCh, it’s great you’re so involved with your wife’s treatment. For my rads I started using moogoo a few weeks prior, and continued to use until about 6 weeks after completion. The clinic gave me strataxrt which is for radiation burns. I started using strataxrt from the first zap until about 6 weeks after. Skin held up pretty well. Best wishes for you and your wife. Xx
- GavinChMemberThank you for your thoughts well wishes and for the feedback. Karen asked me to post and ask the following, I did say to her it would be nice if you ask as I’m sure some people may wonder if I do have a wife “lol” Anyway she was wondering what creams are being used or recommended for her rads.
- BlackWidowMemberThat is good news, @GavinCh. You sound like an amazing men and Karen is so lucky to have you as her support. Some partners are the 'head in the sand' type but you have been and continue to be proactive through a difficult time.
It was a good idea for you to join BCNA as it gives you a place to learn and to just talk to others who understand. We all hope Karen will find her way here over time.
You are both in my thoughts.
Anne <3 - arpieMemberGreat news - all the best for Karen's rads & further treatment xx
