3 Days Post Op

Hi all

Hope you are all travelling well.

I had surgery on Monday and had two lumps removed and a few lymph nodes. Just waiting on results to see if there are clear margins. I can't wait to get home. Three nights in hospital and I am so over it. Even though I have a private room, there is only so much foxtel and average food you can tolerate.  I thought my kids were loud but they are much quieter than the hospital staff and clanging food trolleys. Let me out of here !!

  • Hi Chris I was diagnosed with invasive carcinomas in both breasts in April 2013 - I had skin sparing bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders immediately. I then did 6 months of chemo - finished in November last year- had exchange surgery for silicon implants in March this year. I feel great and while the first couple of weeks of diagnosis are scary, I found that once you know the plan of treatment you feel back in control. Don't know where you live but ask your surgeon if he (or she) does sentinel node removal and biopsy during surgery so that if cancer has not spread there they usually don't need to take any more lymph nodes, ask about skin sparing mastectomy as this is something that you may be suitable for. There is a lot of info to absorb so take your partner or a girlfriend with you to appointments and get them to take notes, write down questions you may have and keep a list of all your appointments etc. My girlfriend also started a records page for me for all medical costs and out of pocket expenses. All the best with everything and at the moment one day at a time. Fiona x
  • Hello Chris

I know it's not easy but try to stay calm until then. Try to think of as many questions as you can to ask the surgeon and breast care nurse, if there is one available. A good surgeon will answer all your questions and try to alleviate your fears. My prayers and support is with you !!

  • I am very scared and anxious after my diagnosis. I will see a surgeon on Friday and will know more then. Say some prayers for me.

  • I just looked at the time you posted and hoping you are well and truly home now.

Being away from loved ones/support group can be very hard. As for your dog.... I've been thinking about borrowing my sister-in-laws dog we sat a few months ago! Pets are lovely and so threapedic!

*virtual hugs* hang in there if check out hasn't happened yet - almost there!!

  • Oh that sucks!  Hope you are out now and if not hope tonight is a much more peaceful night noise wise :)

  • Glad to hear the op is over! Hopefully you are home already? I ended up having two surgeries but spent only one night in hospital each time. The second time, the patients were the noisy ones :) bells going all night for the nurses and the lady in the room next to me having a 20 minute conversation at 5am on her mobile. I was grateful to get home. Good luck with the path results and look after yourself.
