Hi Chris
I was diagnosed with invasive carcinomas in both breasts in April 2013 - I had skin sparing bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders immediately. I then did 6 months of chemo - finished in November last year- had exchange surgery for silicon implants in March this year. I feel great and while the first couple of weeks of diagnosis are scary, I found that once you know the plan of treatment you feel back in control. Don't know where you live but ask your surgeon if he (or she) does sentinel node removal and biopsy during surgery so that if cancer has not spread there they usually don't need to take any more lymph nodes, ask about skin sparing mastectomy as this is something that you may be suitable for. There is a lot of info to absorb so take your partner or a girlfriend with you to appointments and get them to take notes, write down questions you may have and keep a list of all your appointments etc. My girlfriend also started a records page for me for all medical costs and out of pocket expenses.
All the best with everything and at the moment one day at a time.
