11 down 1 to go!

Hi all and a very happy new year to you all!

Well I have one more chemo treatment to go and boy does it feel good. Dancing in the streets, swimming in the pool and beach ( goodbye PICC!).  I have managed to begin walking my 55 mins daily walk again. I managed to put on 1.5 kgs over christmas - pav, christmas pudding you know the things we indulge in!!! The first 15 mins of my walk yesterday was like I had lead in my legs ( I had treatment in the morning!) but afterwards I felt like almost the old me. So much energy. Felt so good!

I have my appointment with radio oncologist team next Thursday for tattoo, CT scan etc. Hoping to start this mid to late Jan and also hoping they will say 5 weeks not 7 weeks treatment. I also begin 3 weekly herceptin on the 27th Jan through to Oct. but the worst I hope is over and I'm so proud of myself!

Wishing you all a wonderfully safe, healthy and fullfilling 2012, with very good news I hope. Thankyou so much for all your advice and love and support in 2011 and look forward to your news in 2012. If any of you live in Perth and would like to meet let me know. I feel the need now to join a face-to-face group as a lot of my friends are so busy and have dropped off a little but they will always be there I'm sure if I need them.

Thinking of you all and enjoy the celebrations/new year's resolutions etc. ENJOY!

Love Alison xxx

  • Hi Al,

Your walk sounds wonderful and not just for your body - what a beautiful setting, swans and all! I noticed you mentioned you were thinking of joining a face-to-face support group. Just wanted to make sure you were aware that you can search for a support group on our website: http://www.bcna.org.au/membergroup/search.

I know there are four or five in and around the Perth area. Just put in your postcode and choose the search distance.

Hope your appointment went well yesterday and that you get a chance to go walking in the regional park again soon :)

  • Not sure I deserve hero status but thanks anyway! Just doing what has to be done! As mentioned working has kept me sane and around people. I'm finding the holidays hard for that reason. I have to make an effort to see people which is why I somehow look forward to my Friday treatments! Funny isn't it?

Thanks for you kind words and good luck with your journey. I'll keep you updated. I have my radiotherapy appointment today. More prodding, CT scan etc.

Happy New year to you and yours,

    Take care,

    Love Alison xxx

  • Well done Al, all the hard work is just about over and you have hopefully archived so much from it all.  In my eyes anyone who goes through chemo is a real trooper, so be very proud.  You will blitz through the radiation then its all over and you can then start to live your life again. All the best and have a happy and healthy new year.

    Cheers Jo xxx

  • Hi Al, is the place where you walk called King's Park? I had a 5 day break in Perth in October, while my husband was on business there. I spent the first day walking all around King's park, 5.5 hours in total. The weather was perfect, and the place so pretty, and it had been tidied up for the Queens visit the following week. Perth is a really pretty place. I was in Perth when I suffered complications following my second mastectomy and insertion of tissue expanders. I was getting ready to leave after 5 days, and suddenly had a spontaneous bleed and hematoma develop. Instead of the airport, I went straight to the Royal Perth Hospital. I needed surgery to remove , clean out and then replace the expander. I was very lucky that a Dr Brigid Corrigan, a specialist breast reconstructive surgeon was on duty that day. She operated after speaking with my plastic surgeon here in Sydney. This was day 20 after my original surgery. I was very impressed with her. Hope you have a good 2012, and congratulations on being nearly over your chemo. Love Chris xx
  • Happy New Year to you and your family!  Thanks for your kind and encouraging words. My walks are 55 mins outside around a gorgeous regional park with a lake, swans and boardwalks.

I hope you are feeling better soon and that you were able to celebrate last night. Ours was very quiet but I did manage to stay awake until 12! Be glad when the chemo is behind me and life can get back to some kind of normality as much as it can after BC.

    Take care and thanks

    Love Alison

  • So you should be proud of yourself. You are a real trooper. You are over the worst for sure and radiation will be just more of an inconvenience. Can't comment on Hercepton- never had it.You are amazing walking for 55mins aday.Is that outside in the heat or on a treadmill?I reckon I could do that on a treadmill in airconditioning but outside is a different story- the hot flushes would cause internal combustion! Gosh,I wouldn't worry about 1.5kg- you'll probably pee that off this week! I had a nice family day Christmas but that night I spent throwing up in the toilet.Too much rich food I think because I was fine the next day.So I didn't put on any kilos.Today I woke up sick with a sore throat and headache so won't be feeling like midnight celebrations. I don't usually get sick but have copped a double dose this week.Chemo is a good yard stick because after you have that, nothing else seems too bad! Enjoy your new year celebrations and hope all goes well next Thursday as I'm sure it will.I think you should plan a big present/reward for yourself for when you finish the last chemo- you deserve it,congrats in advance.
