the waiting is a bitch, I only found out on Wednesday, I have US and CT tomorrow and stressing to the max, the not knowing is quite awful. Ductal carcinoma In situ and metastatic carcinoma in lymph gland, no family history and I’m scared

Yes, the waiting really sucks! Hi @Sabbra,Welcome to the forum. I hope you find it to be as warm and helpful as I have. For me it's been a lifeline. You can come here for a pity party, a laugh (really!), a vent, and endless questions. It's an amazing hive mind.The waiting is the absolute pits. In many ways it's the worst part of the whole breast cancer experience.The only way through it is to take it one day at a time, and distract, distract, distract. TV, friends, exercise, whatever it is, do it.I know you're scared. Everyone here has felt what you're feeling now. Take comfort that Australia (and Finland) lead the world in the treatment of breast cancer. It's a well oiled machine and you will get the best of care.Come back tomorrow and tell us how you went. They never picked up on my lymph node being positive until I had the actual surgery, then I ended up with a second surgery to remove all nodes, just to make sure it was all gone. Nodes usually mean you will need chemo. They can do it before or after the surgery so more waiting for you to see which they choose. There will be a meeting between your surgeon, an oncologist and a radiographer to sort out a treatment plan. Then they will put the suggestion to you.I found it kind of surreal that I had to get quite sick with chemo to treat breast cancer that didn't really bother me at the time at all. One day at a time and you will get through it. <3

Hi @Sabbra Sorry you have to go back for further surgery. As Sister mentioned it is all to common. I had the same last year Lumpectomy in May, re excision June then chemo followed by Mastectomy. I think you get to the stage you just want to get rid of the this shit of a disease.
I didn't have recon I know plenty do and are happy with their decision but for me I didn't want to make any big decisions like that straight away I just wanted to concentrate on getting rid of the bloody thing. You can always go down that route further down the track as an option. Good luck with everything and let us know how you get on. xo

I thank you ladies, no I’m not going to do immediate reconstruction, chemo and radiation and then sometime down the track we’ll see. I really do want that f er gone.

Unfortunately, lumpectomy to mastectomy is all too common @sabbra. I'm sorry that they weren't able to save your breast but it'll be good to know the cancer is gone.

Off it comes, my second surgery didn’t get it all, 22 days and 3 surgeries

Sabbra, Be kind to yourself, rest and let your body heal.
I’ve never liked roller coaster rides , and I’m sure not enjoying this one lol...

Stay positive, I know it’s hard some days, just as long as you pick yourself up again and get those
positive vibes back again.

@Sabbra It must feel good to be home. I hope your healing goes smoothly. It's a series of roller coasters and the swoops are never fun. Waiting for test results - or waiting for anything - is ghastly. Hope you can find some things to do to distract your thinking a bit from the anxiety of waiting. I have no idea how people got through cancer treatment before things like Netflix. Take care. <3
