New and so confused
I am Grade 2, sentinel lymph node free, deciding if the 4 or 5% difference of having Chemo or going straight into radiation and onto tablets and with the added severe family history of kidney and heart disease. So confused ‘do I do Chemo or not’ I know it’s my decision but would like to know if other women have same or similar diagnosis. The oncologist said last week you have 6% extra chance of survival and then today said 4 or 5%.

- ZoffielMemberIf you are running out of the spew pills, ring oncology and they will organise a script for you. Do not go without, just don't. It sounds like you are coping really well, so give yourself the best chance you can of being comfortable.
If, and it is an 'if' you end up getting bone pain from the Neulasta shot it will probably be on Sunday. Don't muck around with it, take what ever pain relief you can and if you are still in trouble on Monday, go back to the hospital and demand something stronger. Suffering is for saints, no need for the rest of us to put up with it.
Reactions to the colony booster (it stimulates your bone marrow to make more white cells) vary greatly; at least your nurse gave you a heads up. Some people have a bit of discomfort, for others (like me) it was a totally body toothache and I needed to pull out the big guns --targin is good-- until I found out about taking Claratyne to help reduce the pain. The theory is the pain is bone odema and the antihistamine reduces it. The key is starting the day before chemo and continuing for a week. Every chance you won't have any trouble, but if you do,, ask your oncologist if you can try it next round. It's standard practice in many clinics and others poo poo it and say it doesn't work. I had chemo twice in ten years, it worked for me.
Keep up the good work! Mxx - Newby24MemberHi all had another good day today but probably over did it a little. Got a date in early April for radiation and the shot for the immune system was very quick and all my panicking was for nothing lol the chemo nurse said my bones would probably start aching because of needle and that probably is why I am still awake. Although my bsl’s was high earlier n don’t know if it was because of the peach I had for afternoon tea or the needle. It is gone down now but my feet are aching and I think tomorrow is going to be a rough one. I have two more nausea tablets to take in the morning n then I probably just have to ride the wave haha that sounded a little funny as we have hardly any water in our rivers 😬 gee I must be getting tired lol I am going no where tomorrow and going to relax all day👍🏼 Day 3 coming up. Just a quick question we have two toilets and at the moment everyone is using one and I am using the other and taking all the proper precautions but how long before I start sharing the toilet again? Hugs to you all.
- kitkatbMemberThat is the best news @Newby24 Just take it easy. I was also on TC and found day 3 to day 9 or 10 was when I was at my lowest. Just day by day and you got this. If your'e on 4 x TC then you are quarter of the way through. Hugs xo
- Blossom1961MemberGreat news @ Newby24. Big hugs for today.
- kmakmMember@Newby24 Well done. So glad it all went smoothly. K xox
- Newby24MemberThank you all for the well wishes. Well I think all in all I came through the first day okay. Took all the nausea tablets they gave me n a shot as well. The TC went along smoothly and even finding a vein was easy. I thought my blood pressure would have been up but it was 120/78 and they were very happy with that. Sugars were good this morning but were up tonight but I’ll just keep checking, temperatures are great so far. I have to go for radiologist meeting tomorrow and back to oncologist for a shot to boost immune system. Hope it goes okay 👌🏽 again thank you again everyone it really does mean the world. @Sister my brother didn’t end up getting out of hospital and no I live in Dubbo NSW and he lives 50kms in Wellington 👍🏼 Thanks for asking. @CathyMac you already sound like a very positive lady who I will totally be cheering from the sideline 👏🏼
- FlaneuseMember@Newby24 I'm just joining this thread as I've been occupied for a couple of weeks with family stuff. I hope today is as trauma-free as possible for you. The other champions on here have given you all the best advice.
A chemo nurse advised me to take the anti-nausea meds regularly and pre-emptively: don't wait until nausea knocks at your door.
Ginger beer and ginger lollies are good if you feel queasy. I had no vomiting at all.
Your first cycle should give you an idea of the pattern of how each cycle will go.
Take your temperature twice a day. The hospital will tell you that if it's 38C, go to Emergency.
I had my hair buzz-cut. The remaining 1 cm started falling out after about 10 days; it wasn't uncomfortable - in fact I used to make a joke of rubbing it and spreading "silver fairy sprinkles". I chose turbans rather than a wig and loved them.
If friends ask what they can do to help, tell them "A prepared meal that can be frozen".
I hope you get a decent sleep tonight.
All the best . - Riki_BCNAMemberHello@Newby24 wishing you all the best for your first chemotherapy treatment today. Rest well and take care of you. If you have any concerns or worries post, don't hesitate to contact your treating team for support.
- kmakmMemberYou'll be right @Newby24, we're with you all the way. Have you got someone to drive you there and back? There was no way I could have driven home as they gave me Phenergan to counterract an allergic reaction to one of the drugs. I was dopey as anything! Good though as I just slept through it. They had to wake me up to tell me I was finished! Good luck. K xox
- CathyMacMember@Newby24 thinking of you today. All the best. I have my first chemo on Monday. Sending big hugs❤️
