New and so confused
I am Grade 2, sentinel lymph node free, deciding if the 4 or 5% difference of having Chemo or going straight into radiation and onto tablets and with the added severe family history of kidney and heart disease. So confused ‘do I do Chemo or not’ I know it’s my decision but would like to know if other women have same or similar diagnosis. The oncologist said last week you have 6% extra chance of survival and then today said 4 or 5%.

- AllyJayMemberHi there again @Newby24...regarding the "drink plenty of water to flush the chemo from your system faster" didn't make sense to me anyway. My thought was that the longer it stayed in my body, in large amounts, the more opportunity it had to kill off the cancer. To me, it was the same as putting hair colour on your hair, then rinsing it off after five minutes, before it had had a chance to penetrate throughout the hair follicles, in strength. That was what I told myself anyway, and it made me feel a little less guilty about my fluidless hybernation.
- kmakmMember@Newby24 Me too. K xox :*
- Newby24Member@Blossom1961 yes I am feeling a little better tonight about tomorrow and thanks for the 🤗 @AllyJay it’s funny ay they say drink lots and take pain killers which make you sleep and so you can’t drink while your asleep and I was the same having to run to toilet all the time. Yes after next week hopefully I can regroup and I’m sure I will be back on here asking for advice from all of you wonderful people. @Zoffiel thank you for your advice as always. Codeine, panadol and phenergan help me sleep very well lol love your ‘grammar alert’ as I am a teacher but do not speak or write Australian Standard English very well haha @kmakm thank you always for your wisdom and support. I remember not so long ago when I first joined this group and I made my first comment, I remember a lot of people saying we are all in this together and that there will always be someone here to speak to and again I feel so blessed to have my virtual friends here again for me 💕
- kmakmMemberLovely, this is a safe whingeing space! As you say, we're all in this together. K xox :)
- ZoffielMember@newby it is hard work.
Chemo during my first round of treatment wasn't that bad, in hind sight. Nasty at times, confronting and terribly inconvenient but it passed quite quickly. BC V2 was different; 10 years older, I didn't cope so well, but it still got done ****grammar alert***
I know exactly how you feel when you say you want to sleep for a week. For the first time in nearly three decades in 2016 I craved herionne. I'd have crawled across hot coals for sleep and bliss. Sadly, no sleep, no bliss and an abundance of coals. I'm hoping that it was all worth it, but who knows. Hang in there chick, you are nearly over the line. MXXX - AllyJayMemberOh @Newby24...you're not a whinger at all. We all get it, we really do. I was so totally flat, fatigued and f***ed during my AC part of chemo, that I even didn't drink as much as I know I should have, because then I knew that in an hour, I'd have to get off my bed to go and pee. In fact the whole mission of getting up, getting the drink and then later offloading it seemed all too much of an effort as did everything else. However, you three quarters of the way through, only one more to go, then you can start to regroup. The worst of your treatment will be over. What comes after that, you will deal with day by day with us here all beside you.
- Blossom1961Member@Newby24 Three down, 75% done. Achievement! Way over half way there. I kept telling myself that through each phase. I am now on my her2 blocker and over half way. “Active” treatment is now over for me. Once it finishes you look back and realise it was doable, just a bit challenging at times. Big hugs.
- Newby24Member@kmakm unfortunately I am finding it out the hard way. I am so scared about chemo 4 if I’m still feeling like this after chemo 3 and then I feel terrible cause I feel like a whinger. It is so doable but so tiring as well. Two days, and I suppose and we’ll see how the last one effects me, hopefully I can sleep through the first week and then start to move on towards my rads. Thank you. Anyone who is reading my whinge please know chemo is doable and the doctor, oncologist and nurse had never seen my side effects before so you’ll probably be good. We are all different but all in this together.
- kmakmMemberYou just can't hurry it unfortunately @Newby24. BC really schools you in patience. You'll get there eventually but it takes a long time. K xox
- Newby24Member@jennyss @Doodoo Thank you for your replies, it really does mean a lot as I was feeling very down yesterday but not so bad today. I am usually an independent woman and I am finding it hard to have to depend on people. Even my 10 year old grandson said when you get better you’ll owe me $15 for getting you toast and drinks and looking after you lol it was worrying me as it has been nearly 4 weeks tomorrow since last chemo and I have no energy still but I have been really trying yesterday, today and I will tomorrow as well so I’ll be ready for the last round Wednesday. Then off to Orange (1.30hrs) for radiation for 25 rounds. I’ll stay over for most of the time so that will be okay. Again thank you for your advice 🌸
