My First Post

Hello

I am new to this site.

I was officially diagnosed with breast cancer on the 10/12/2013 and what a rollercoaster ride it has been since then, not only for me but for my friends and family also.

I am having 4 lots of AC chemo and then 12 lots of taxol. Hopefully after that, the cancer lump will have shrunk and then I will have a lumpectomy and then radiation. I had my first chemo treatment on the 13th December and my next will be on the 27th December. The first few days after my first treatment I felt very nauseous, light headed and out of it. Since then, I have just been feeling very, very lethargic. Took a short walk the other day and it felt like I had walked 50km and was training for oxfam again. It has been a whirlwind of blood tests, ct scans, chemo, mammograms, specialist appointments, medication and needles, needles, needles. My emotions are up then down. I'm trying to eat healthy and I miss my daily chocolate indulges. And on top of all that, it's Christmas. Thank goodness I have such great support !!!

  • Hello Deanne Thankyou for your insight and good advice. That will be great if the taxol has less nausea side effects. I will keep up the walking. I have to. My dog sits there everyday with her big sad eyes until I take her. Hope you have a good Chrissy !! Lisa xxx
  • Hello Julie Thanks for your advice. I do have some tablets for the nausea and I will allow myself my treats from now on. Have a good Christmas !! Lisa
  • Welcome from me too:)I found the tiredness the worst with the chemo.I had my last chemo last Monday, and if I could tell you one thing that helped me the most,it is that walking every day is so important. My oncologist kept on telling me this, and I walked every single day.Even on those few days when your legs feel like lead, just do a bit.It actually alleviates the fatigue.Your emotions will continue to be all over the place while you are on chemo.I am sure it's a combination of what you are dealing with, and the chemo itself. When you feel like crying, just do it.Dont try to make sense of it.As Deanne said, eating what you feel like, and when you feel like it,really does help with that nauseous feeling that you can get sometimes. My worst days after chemo were days 5 to about 10,then things started to improve again. Its great to have good support Lisa, and important to lean on these people and take time when you need it,just for YOU:) I hope you have a peaceful Christmas, and you will be through chemo and on to the next step before you know it! Sending a big hug. xoxox Robyn

  • Hello Mich

I live in Melbourne. I haven't had time to look up any face to face support groups in my area yet but I will.

I have already ordered My Journey Kit but I think I probably won't get it until January now because they will close over Christmas.

The 256 does stand for my birthdate. It is also my aunties birthday and my grandmothers birthday on my mothers side. How's that. And my mum's birthday is the 12th of the 12th and she is the twelth child born.

Thanks for your support and kind words.

I hope you have a lovely Chrissy too !!

  • Welcome to the breast cancer network, you will find a lot of comfort from us ladies. Chemo does make you really tired and lethargic, so rest when you need to. I hope they gave you something to help with nausea. You will find yourself very emotional at times, let it all out when your feeling down, we are always hear if you need reassurance. Hope you are well enough to enjoy Xmas Day and I wish you all the best for 2014,

    Hazel xx

  • Yes chemo hits the energy levels big time. Hope you have something to manage the nausea. My advice is also to eat healthy but I also allow myself a treat each day. Hey. It's a hard enough road without chocolate! Don't fret the emotional thing. It just happens but all this will pass in time. Take care Julie.
