Just diagnosed but cannot even contact a surgeon until 9th January. Stress levels high.
I received by biopsy results on Christmas Eve, stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma. GREAT!
I was given a referral which was marked urgent and sent to the surgeon and told to call them on 28th December. That was a wonderful Christmas period, NOT. But once I thought I could get the ball rolling I felt a bit better. I rang to find they are closed until 9th January, and so is the other surgeon I am referred to. I cannot find anyone open, the GP is sweet but not helpful and I am going quietly mad.
The receptionists say that is a problem at this time of the year, which is not helpful and I feel like screaming at them.
This is cancer here, it doesn't pause for the Christmas period.
Another 10 days waiting to even get to find someone let alone get an appointment.
Keeping busy helps for a while but I just hope to heaven it is not progressing while I wait, it has already been over 3 weeks of tests and scans since I found it.
I am so glad to have just found this site.

- melclarityMemberOh Mima!! Thats wonderful news!! you really did get the best results you could have hoped for! So DCIS?? that's what I had my first diagnosis, its pre cancer, and I had to have radiation plus Tamoxifen for 5yrs. Enjoy the cruise! x
- MimaMemberThanks for your support everyone it really helpedResults good,if I had to have breast cancer apparently this tumour is the one to have!! :-) :-)Very low grade, small and "lazy"Margins clear and both lymph nodes clear. So all "gone", will still need radiotherapy but not even hormone tablets. Review at surgeon in 6 months but no mammogram for 12 months!! :-)
So now I can go on my cruise in 11days with another daughter and relax.
Yes I know I will have to have radiotherapy when I return but that will be just a "bump" in my journey followed by just surveillance for next 10 years hopefully!! - MimaMemberThanks for your support everyone, it really helped
- Hi Mima, have been thinking of you and hope you got a good result this morning. Jane x
- Butterfly_40MemberHi Mima,
That's my attitude as well, hoping for the best but prepare for the worst!
Good luck and wish you get a good result!
lots of love and hugs for you! - primekMemberHang in there. So glad someone is with you and you'll soon have a plan.
- melclarityMemberOh the person on the phone said that? really? Ive never heard of that, normally they dont say anything. Is this your Surgeon your seeing for path results? Did you have a biopsy prior to this? Of course be positive :) and I say that from my experience Ive learnt to go into these appointments positive, but not for the outcome but for HOW I handle whatever it will be...that was the key for me. So once you get there you'll know, which will be great. x
- iserbrownMemberWon't be long now and you will know where you are at and the treatment plan will be formulated! Remember you've got all of us here to help you through! Sending you a virtual hug!
- MimaMemberThank you @melclarity.
Have come this far. I just keep going over worst case scenarios in my head trying to prepare if news is bad. Trouble is when ,i got first call back all the literature and person on phone said 90% people ccalled back don't have cancer. Unfortunately I was in that 10% that did!!
Hard to be positive right now. ,:( - melclarityMember@Mima YES I have everything crossed for you too!! After having been through this twice I know too well the angst of this appointment! Let us know how you go!! Deep Breath, just remember no matter what you have got this, and will be OK! Hugs Melinda xo
