Its good that your hubby has been able to express his feelings to you. The not being able to fix it is a huge thing for those around us. It is an awful feeling of helplessness. It is just the beginning and there will be many more ups and downs for both of you. You will be able to access counselling for you both through the hospital. Use every resource you can.
