Hi Vallerina, reading your comments took me back to my own DCIS journey. High grade DCIS often does not stay contained for long and so, if it is a large area, does need a mastectomy. Because of controversies in treatment of DCIS it can make you second guess treatment plans - please know, from what you've written, that I feel you are on the correct course of action, hard as it is to face a mastectomy. My mastectomy pathology showed that my widespread high grade DCIS turned out to have two different invasive components in it. This helped me to accept that I had done the right thing.
